I'm trying to lay off buying more HD-DVD, but when they cost the same as renting, you just can't pass it up. I picked up 5.

Picked up 15 movies. :) I dug through the reviews on all the ones I bought, and they indicated the transfers were excellent.

There are some pretty decent movies on that list...would be an even better deal if they were all $5 ea...

It would be an even better deal if they were all free...but you can't have everything.

Fry's has the 360 HD-DVD drive for $40/$50 + S/H (with King Kong & 2 Bourne movies or King Kong, Heroes S1, & BSG S1) for those interested. Works with Windows and AnyDVD HD, from what I understand.

Yep, that's definitely possible. However, only two of the ones I bought (Serenity and Shooter) were more than $5 anyway. :p

Hmmm....if you have a player that supports both, would you spend $5 or $15-30 for the exact same movie? Unless you like to share movies with friends I'd go for the cheaper format. The video + sound quality are no different.

Got my first order, thanks op!!
BTW for those who may care, you can get a cheap 360 HD DvD player off ebay and it will work with windows XP and Vista to get you started off in the HD waters on the super duper cheap. You can also pick up a LG Bluray/HD DvD/16x dvd Burner/reader/Lightscribe player for your PC at around $110 shipped b]that comes with the PowerDVD software[/b] you need to play the movies with. And if you happen to have a monitor thats not HDCP compliant all you need to do is buy AnyHDDVD/DVD and have it run in the background and you can play your newly acquired movies on ANY monitor OR TV ;)

I forgot to mention that you can also find a LOT of HD DVD's used and new around this price on Half.com when you search for HD DVD as well. I just picked up the Matrix Trilogy and Oceans 11/12/13 for under $20 each shipped for the gift set.

Oh the Xbox 360 HD player - it works. It's slow, especially with AnyDVD. The LG HD/Blu-ray combo is quite a bit faster. (I own both).

So far as I can tell, even a "bad" transfer in 1080p is better than their DVD counterparts.
