are there any players for Linux that can play HD DVD? I have a PS3, and am playing around with the idea of the HD DVD add-on for the 360. I don't own a 360, and my roomies 360 is an older model with no HDMI.
So couple of questions:
can the linux distro's for PS3 play HD DVD's? I know Linux on PS3 recognizes the HD DVD USB add-on, but have heard no HD DVD play due to lack of codec support. If there even was codec support, could the PS3 actually play the discs due to the lack of access to the video chipset?
If all the above were to actually work, does any Linux distro with PS3 support have full access to HDMI capabilities? Can audio be output correctly so that a receiver can access it? And, can the system decode audio codecs and send out PCM audio over HDMI?
These are probably all things that cannot possibly happen at the moment, and thus I will probably stop looking at HD DVD. Today marked the first day I ever considered HD DVD, and it was only because of this deal.
that and I want Transformers. lol
only if all the above could happen would I consider this. Because I basically see HD DVD as dead by the end of this 'format war', and I don't want to gamble even more moneys. PS3's BD was a bonus, and will always work so I keep buying BD movies.
