HD cpu usage ~20%....

I've had this problem for a while now, I just never found the system to be really slow. but it's been bothering me lately, that HD Tach (2.7) likes to report ~20% cpu utilization. seems a bit high...

dma is on for the drives, and both nvidia and windows ide drivers I tested. I also have a promise controller... every drive (3) is on it's own channel.

I did this test when i had no promise controller, as well as when I had an asus board (now shuttle, both nforce2).

Any ideas on why it's so high? All programs shut down, and services any services I had installed were stopped. drives are defragged as well.

That is an error with HDtach 2.7 it reports CPU usage WAY to high. Try moving some big files around and see how many cycles that eats up in task manager.
 
i thought it might be an error.. but that beta hasn't been out long has it? I remember ppl giving their HDTach scores in the single digits when I first got my nforce board.
