hd and cd on same ide channel?

i've got a mobo with a bad primary ide channel, so i'm going to be forced to put both my hd and cd on the same (secondary) channel. yeah, i know i could buy a new mobo, but this is my folks pc that i'm debugging and they're cheap. so, anyway, i'm wondering if i will see any problems with this, or any kind of major performance hit. tell me what you know ...

Barring any actual booting problem it is just not ideal performance-wise for transfers betwixt those devices. The only real potential impact would be in the case of an already slow older machine and where the CD burner lacks a pause-burn feature so craps out rather than just taking longer. So prolly if it works it will be fine.

thanks, guys, it did fine installing win xp and sp2, so i'm thinking it's ok. anybody else care to weigh in?
