Durv, keep an eye out to see if this hits US shores soon:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-185-MS
Looks like a nice cooler AND factory overclocked to 1050 Mhz out of the box. I was going to order the Sapphire offering, but I'm gonna wait it out another month or so to see if this one comes our way.
Looks like i'll be getting a HD 7950 after all
With both cards O/C'd to the same core frequency (the 7870LE had higher memclocks) the 7950 can be appreciably faster.
What made you come to this conclusion? I'm building yet another system and going to pass on my 7850 to my nephew.
I'm in the same boat as you.
Both overclocked, the 7950 just doesn't feel worth the extra $ at this point (to me). Feels like the 570/560 Ti 448 scenario.
Both are good choices but you are comparing the OCability to the HIS ICEq X2, which is a $350 card versus a $215-230 on the 7870 XT. In the BF3 benchmark you posted, you are getting 18% better performance at 50% additional cost.
Both cards are at the same clocks and obviously they both didn't perform close to each other. That's all I was showing. A Sapphire 7950 @ $280AR would perform the same. Where are they $215-$230?
nicx
Has it for $214 AR

and Newegg had it for $219 AR
Just Bought a MSi Twin Frozr II HD 7950. Thanks for all the help everybody
Apparently Newegg is now shipping MSI TF 7950 cards with 2x6-pin connectors, no longer the HD7970 PCB.

I'd shoot for this:
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Most likely, you'll end up w/ an overclock ~1150-1175 core and 1600-1700 memory @ 1174mV.
7970 pcb
I got the one with the HD 7950 PCB and 6+6 pin power connectors
have you got the card ? does it fit in your coolermaster storm scout case ? is it the boost edition with 960 mhz boost clocks ? normally 1100 mhz is easy to achieve at stock voltage. if you want you can push further with voltage tweaking.
hasn't arrived as i bought it yesterday and no its not a boost edition
