Bump for great deal (but note the $5 shipping). A bunch of people got in on the HD5850 for $120. This is actually an even better deal. About equal to an HD6950 1GB or 560Ti, which both go for over $200.

Here's what people said about that deal: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2206875

FYI, the "$630 list price" is seriously inflated, so it's not actually 78% off, but whatever...

Edit: Also available here for $150: http://www.gearxs.com/gearxs/product_info.php?products_id=15897

Mmmm very nice. I've decided I'm going to wait it out till the 7000 series is released though.

only a $10 difference in between the deals on the 5870 but the biggest difference seems to be the Warranty. Compare 90 days from 1sale a day to 2 years from the other.

Hmmmm, do I jump on this deal? I'm looking to upgrade my 4890 and was thinking about getting a 6950 1GB in the coming weeks. Keep in mind, I've got a 500watt PSU, OC'd my Q9400 to 3.2ghz, and only game at 1680x1050...

At that resolution, I would do it in a heart beat (while knowing that you have a 90 day warranty). Or save up some cash for 6950 with a longer warranty

Either way, it's a win win for you.

This is a good deal on the card but at your resolution I wouldn't bother. Your card should run most, if not all, games at high resolution. I suggest waiting for the 7 series unless you really have to have the extra eye-candy. Your 4890 is still good :)

Big upgrade, about 50-60% in older games, more in games like bf3. 6950 is not significantly faster, and in some games can be slower. So this is clearly a better deal, especially given your cpu and resolution.

Also you'll be saving a huge amount of power at idle.

Eh, I think I'll wait and grab a 6950 from one of the Manufacturers with a Lifetime Warranty & a better cooler, plus it draws quite a bit less power than the 5870.

BF3 is struggling for me at 16x10 even on low everything.

I have a 9600GT right now, struggling very much with BF3. So tempted to get this. How much further out in time are the newer generation of cards?

That can't be. BF3 on high runs fine for my 4870, Q6600, 16:10. Your card is faster than mine.

Most likely you'll have to wait it out for another month or two, possibly longer. Not a bad price for the card tho.

Strange how all these older ATI cards are popping up left and right currently. Makes a person think AMD is clearing out some old recently found inventory. Too bad they didn't find them in the bitcoin craze timeframe.

I have no idea why someone would not pay an extra $5 for a 2 yr warranty v. 90 days.

The difference in power use is relatively insignficant: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4061/amds-radeon-hd-6970-radeon-hd-6950/24. The price difference, however, is not. I can understand the appeal of a lifetime warranty (that's why I bought an XFX as my first 5850), but a 2-year warranty is pretty good too (see alternate sale site I listed).

Sorry, but that's just wrong: http://www.techspot.com/review/458-battlefield-3-performance/page4.html. You simply aren't running high on a 4870. 5870 is a HUGE upgrade for BF3. High would actually be the sweetspot for a 5870 at 16x10 - would probably hit 50fps.

Most likely you'll have to wait it out for another month or two, possibly longer. Not a bad price for the card tho.

Simple - OEMs are dumping the 5850 and 5870 in preparation for new AMD cards. They will then use 6870/6950 as the lower-tier cards. While it's possible these are coming from AMD, it's more likely they're from Dell.

And for everyone waiting for the 7000 series, while the latest hints from Anandtech suggest it is incoming ("If you can hang off buying a GPU for the time being, as we noted earlier the next generation AMD parts are due "real soon now" so you can grab one of those after the holidays." - http://www.anandtech.com/show/5184/holiday-midrange-system-buyers-guide/4), it's not incoming at $150. Sure it will be twice as fast, but it will be at least $350.

Do you think it would be worth it for me to upgrade now, then? I would probably have the money to spend (and I could sell the card) at that time.

I guess what would make it worth it is, would I be able to run a game like BF3 much better? Here's my specs:

Intel C2D E8400
4GB of RAM (DDR2)
9600GT

Right now the video card is the weakest factor. My CPU is slightly dated, but still good, right?

I bought an HD5850 from 1saleaday and it works just fine. Don't expect it anytime soon because they take forever to ship! You might have it by Christmas at this time of the year.

BEWARE: I posted the GearXS link, but now an AT forum member has posted a negative review of their handling of a faulty HD5870: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2210955

You're going to be fairly CPU-limited on newer games with anything above an HD4870-class card (which can be had for $55 in the hot deals section, BTW). I wouldn't buy an HD5870 for that system.
