Edit: and fewer texture units, lower clocks: chart

The size is what draws me to these things. Concise powerhouse. CF and be happy as hell.

I sold one last week and the other today. Knawing at my fingernails, but must resist. It's not a big enough upgrade from a 4890 for me. I'm hoping 5870 X2 lands within three weeks. Otherwise it's two of these.

I'm in agreement with you. The 5850 doesn't seem like a big enough 'upgrade' from a GTX 280, but then again 5850 Crossfire will probably run everything out with ease for the next year and beyond.

From a 8800 GTS 512MB that seems ancient compared to what people have here, I really do want to upgrade. But I just spent an equivalent amount of money on a nice new SSD. Christmas it is then...

Unlike memory (aargh), video cards do tend to get cheaper with time.

(Hm... the idle power savings on this thing might just pay itself over 2 years or so).
EDIT Well not actually. I got the 27W figure from specs and 65W figure from legitreviews for my old card. Still, I'm impressed by the idle wattage on this thing.
With computers on 24/7 these days, idle power actually does matter.

I had an HIS card once - they only have a year long warranty - or at least they did about a year and a half ago. I'd avoid it.

ati just changed the rated tdp on these cards to 151watts according to hilbert.

firingsquad oc'd one to faster than a 5870:

all this and anand saying gtx380 wont be here til q1 2010, 5850 x-fire is an excellent buy if you have that kind of money. At stock speeds it's 40% faster than a gtx295 at the same price.

I thought Dell had everything... some people here sure ran with that.

$260 is pretty temptinng, that's not a whole lot more than this 4870 cost. Though I really want 2GB. Bah.

Yea me too. It may be overkill in most situation, but next gen for me will include more memory. Like a Trojan, better to have handy than not.. :D

Just noticed the 5850s are also including the dirt2 coupon as well, that adds a bit to the value, if anyone is interested in the game that is.
