The only way to get 3 outputs working simultaneously is for one of them to be DisplayPort. A VGA+DVI+HDMI will only let you output from two of them.
You can get DisplayPort -> VGA adapters which are cheaper than DP -> DVI/HDMI (like $3o instead of $100) if you do have a VGA monitor.

From the little I've understood on this topic, VGA/DVI/HDMI output requires a RAMDAC for signal timing. As almost all consumer cards only have two RAMDAC, only two outputs of these types are nornally possible. DisplayPort-to-DisplayPort connection handles signal timing differently (no graphics card RAMDAC required) to provide extra outputs, but using adapters might require active power to provide a signal timing.

I think AT main site has an article on this somewhere (5870 Eyefinity6 ?).

Your link is bringing me to a list of 5670 cards and not a specific model. The thing I've noticed is only some 5670's support eyefinity while others don't. Everyone that does list eyefinity support also has a displayport.

XFX advertises on their website an HD5670 that does Eyefinity. I am not sure about the others on that list.

Sounds like the vga cards wont do eyefinity. Has anyone published a list of tested displayport adapters confirmed to work with the ati cards?

ATI Eyefinity technology can support up to 6 displays using a single enabled ATI Radeon™ graphics card with Windows Vista or Windows 7 operating systems - the number of displays may vary by board design and you should confirm exact specifications with the applicable manufacturer before purchase. ATI Eyefinity technology works with games that support non-standard aspect ratios, which is required for panning across multiple displays. To enable more than two displays, additional panels with native DisplayPort™ connectors, and/or certified DisplayPort™ adapters to convert your monitor’s native input to your cards DisplayPort™ or Mini-DisplayPort™ connector(s), are required.
