Damn those temps are rather high for CPU. You want something like under 75C for hickup free operations. You are running stock and it runs that hot? I thought my E6300 was hot running 70C on load. But that's at 3.36ghz with a voltage of 1.475. Other wise it runs 54C on load at default settings.

I suggest you get better cooler for your CPU.

Since you've cleaned everything up and you're still touching 85 C, that means that your cooler is clearly not making good contact with the cpu, maybe one push pin is loose. The recommended thing to do is to try to reinstall it, maybe changing the thermal paste in the process.

 Regardless of an impending CPU upgrade, the current HSF really needs reseating (with TIM) to protect from overheating damage.

Just reiterating what has already been said but your CPU is running way way way to hot. To give you an example I run a e6300 in my htpc and, under 2x prime95, it hits 56c @ 2.8ghz. If I had to guess, I would say you have a pushpin not all the way in.

Yes, i m running with stock cooler. Another problem is, my room temperature (when AC is off) is around 35C+ :( And yes, i did forget to buy thermal paste, i just cleaned and reseated HS. I think i'll buy CoolerMaster HTK solution (since near my place they are out of Arctic Silver 5), and use it this weekend.

How come is so hot in your room when AC is off? Is that hot in North Carolina during this period? I'm from Europe so I don't know. :)

I am from India :)

Trust me, it is HOT! When i turn on the AC and set temp to 24-25C, my CPU core comes down to around 77C too...most of the times.

Now I understand. India is just starting to warm up from March and in a couple of weeks you'll be reaching 40 C or more, isn't it?

also turn on the monitor and see what your memory use is like... with 2gb u may be getting into swapping if u have a lot of background junk running, or are multitaskign when u game...

but hot cpu is definitely the first thing to check...

Running your CPU without a TIM or paste of any kind is really not a good idea. I would suggest you apply any brand of thermal paste you can get your hands on.

Now.

Yeah, this is really pretty astounding. You really have NO material between the CPU and the heatsink? I wouldn't even turn a computer on with it like that, let alone play a game. Isn't Tjmax on the E6300 around 85C? No wonder you were throttling. Your CPU is crying because you're torturing it.

No, what you really need is ANY interface material at this point. AS5 is good, but it's not worth waiting for if your CPU is burning up.

go into the BIOS and lower your multiplier/fsb unless you want to risk frying your CPU and maybe even the motherboard with it
