Hi everyone,

I just purchased a dell xps with a i7 2.66 ghz cpu, 4850 hdi 512mb gfx card, 4gb of ram. I am wondering what monitor I should pair with this set up. I plan on using my comp for mostly games and some GIS work. I have been looking at the ASUS VH236H (23' HDMI monitor). My concern is if this monitor is too large for the gfx card to handle and will cause unnecessary lag while playing games such as CoD4 (and soon to be Modern Warfare 2). If this monitor will cause me problems any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I guess I should also add that I plan on updating my graphics card to the 5xxx series when it comes out. Thanks again.

I recently ordered an 1680x1050 ASUS monitor (VW224U ) for a friend's build. It has really poor viewing angles, I would recommend against it. There's no ghosting... but unless you position yourself perfectly you will have color loss from bad angles. Maybe the 1920x1080 version is better, but the advertised viewing angles are actually superior on the VW224U so I would be wary of ASUS monitors. I use a CRT so I am critical of LCD's with poor viewing angles, but my brother's iMac from 2006 is significantly better in that department.

But anyway, I play CoD 4 at 1920x1080 4xAA 16xAF (soften smoke edges off) and on my 4850 and I have a weaker CPU than you. MW2 will undoubtedly have higher system requirements, but I'm sure you will still be able to get really great settings on it.

Thanks for the response. I have been reading the reviews for the VH236H and hadnt seen any complaints about view angles. Thanks for the head up though. I am currently using a Samsung Syncmaster 721b so im in desperate need of an upgrade. Would you have any suggestions on a 22-23 in monitor with better performance in the same price range?

I was just looking at the LG L227WTG-PF (22') which rated well on the LCD sticky thread at the top of the page in the Gaming Monitor category. Has anyone had any experience with this monitor.
