HD 4770 Bios Flashing Has Been Sucessful

Pardon my ignorance, but what's the point of flashing the BIOS instead of just OCing it? Did you increase voltage or something?
 
I really wish they would let users adjust the voltage depending on their needs.

What would be really nice is if they would massively undervolt and underclock the cards in 2D mode to save on energy, then allow you to juice up the card for a 3D overclock. 3D cards seem really wasteful in 2D mode in terms of energy.

For some reason the standard ATI bios is a POS. As soon as i added the Asus bios the card stabilized and overclocking is 100Xs easier.

I've flashed mobo bios before but never a video card. Is there something in CCC that lets someone do this? Or would a person use another utility for flashing the GPU bios.

So I should use Winflash 2.0.1.7 over ATI Flash 3.60?

Do I need a floppy drive or can I store the Bios on my PC hard drive?

Flashing the bios with a bios that's not from the manufacturer does void your warranty in most cases.

Sad thing is, the ATI CCC overclock limit is a artificially imposed one. Those HD 4770's can indeed go up to 900MHz or higher. See http://tweakers.net/ext/i/1240925949.jpeg

It'll beat the crap out of a HD 4850 at those speeds though 🙂

Well, since no one has said it yet... AMD/ATi cards do not overclock. :|

Hahah. It looks like they really did their homework on this card. Hard to beat at $99 I'd think. I'm not trying to sound rich here, because I'm certianly not, but I'd feel alot better about voiding my warranty on a ~$100 card then on a $450 card. I think if I bricked the card I'd live. 🙂

Looks like a great value for people who like to tweak. I imagine two of these in Crossfire overclocked would be a quite powerful combo for $200 that shows up much more expensive cards.
 
I thought when you flashed the bios it also changed the sub vendor id. When I flashed my 3870 to an asus bios it changed the vendor id to 1043...
