HD 4350 vs. 6800 Ultra. Which is better for games?

Hey everyone.

I recently got a good deal from NewEgg.com on a HD 4350 card with connection outputs that my TV can't use (hooray for my impulsive buying habit). Rather than send it back and pay a 15% restocking fee, I was thinking of keeping it for a back-up card.

Then a more thought-out notion crossed my mind;

I have another older system running an NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra and it occurred to me that the HD 4350 might be an upgrade. However, I've been unable to find comparison benchmarks between my old 6800 and the newer low end cards after Googling for about half an hour.

Does anyone know some performance numbers for games? Would the 4350 be an overall upgrade, a "side"grade with DX10 support, or a downgrade?

If anyone could post some numbers or linkage, I'd greatly appreciate it. If it turns out to not even be a side-grade, I'll be glad to sell if for a little less than I paid (about $30).

I'd say it'd be a pretty sideways move with DX10 support. It may be a little slower, even.

edit..guess I was wrong. It'd make a good backup card then.

What do you mean, connection outputs your TV can't use? Your TV doesn't have HDMI or VGA? There are DVI to HDMI converters (the sound won't go over this, but whatever).

Thanks for the replies and the link.

My TV is old. As in cathode ray tube old. I can use coax, s-video, composite, component, or S-Video.

I run Windows 7 at 800x600 on it old.

I'm a broke arse college student who can't find freelance work with my first degree in design, so I doubt I'll be able to get a TV that could use the connection anytime soon either.

Guess if I can't find someone who'd want it for Christmas, I have myself a moderate backup / testing card...

I'd say they are pretty even give or take. Older games is where the ultra would be faster. Newer games 4350. Both 2 slow for any newer games.

Out of boredom I fired up my media centre with 4350 and Athlon 64 @ 2.4GHz and ran Battlefield 2 with Fraps, to compare with the benchmark figures for 6800 Ultra. http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2466&p=3

The numbers come out about the same for 4350 and 6800 Ultra. 1280x1024 4xAA with all settings on high yielding 50 to 70 fps. At 1920x1200, same settings, hovering around 30 fps.

I've never gamed on the 4350, I'm pleasantly shocked how well it performed. Not to mention it's a passively cooled card =O
