HD 3300 Driver problem

Got a new mobo today with HD 3300 graphics. I updated the graphics driver to 9.6 but when I hit the start button or am surfing the internet or doing anything, I get these strange solid black lines about 2 - 3 inches long that move really fast. Not too many, just a few. I uninstalled the drivers and tried 9.5 but it does the same thing. Ended up just using the drivers off the cd that were like 8.51 dated back from 6/10/2008 and don't have this problem.

Any suggestions
 
That's the exact place I got both 9.6 and 9.5. I get the same problem. Some strange solid black line in different places on the screen that move really really fast. Using the driver that came with the motherboard doesn't have this problem. Strange to me.
 
Hello, I have same problem exactly - not sure you use same mobo (Gigabyte GAMA790GP-UD4H here, bought 2 days ago).
This must be side-port memory problem. When I switched memory mode to UMA I get no more artifacts. But this is not a good solution for the new mobo!
I also noticed that reducing color depth to 16-bit helped in same way.

I wasn't able to run it right with any driver though... what is your mobo? Where can I find the driver 8.51 driver?

Solved the problem I think. I had my gpu memory speed or something at 533 which was the max. I think it was probably clocked too high and getting too hot and causing the problem. Put it back on default speed of 400mhz and everything seems fine now. Is this the correct speed? The other setting I saw was at 700mhz.
 
From my experience with the 780G chipset (HD3200) the ATI IGP doesn't really like having the memory overclocked, I had plenty of problems getting my Hybrid crossfire setup (HD3200 +HD3450) to work correctly because the IGP's memory was being overclocked to high when I overclocked the systems ram, once I got that sorted, I was able to get the HD3200's core to match the 600mhz HD3450's core and it runs pretty sweetly now, and for such a cheap and simple crossfire setup it doesn't perform all that badly either.

Rig is as follows

AMD Athlon X2 3800+@2.5ghz (will be replaced with either a PII 720 or a 945 shortly)
2gb DDR2 667@800mhz 5-5-5-12 timings
Gigabyte GA-MA780GM-S2H
Gigabyte HD3450 512mb
 
I browsed the mobo cd and found an old 8.52 driver which worked for me too.
Memory clock - this is what I suspected, but I can't find this setting on my Gigabyte - any tips?

I found it - it was hidden under CTRL+F1; there was a 667MHz setting by default - the maximum one which is not recommended! I switched to 533 and it is OK now with new drivers as well

I just wanted to chime in and say that I was having the EXACT same problem. I also have the GA-MA790GP-UD4H mobo and am experiencing the small horizontal line artifacts/tears on the screen. I also disabled Sideport memory and the problem disappeared. However, now that you guys mention the 667Mhz setting, I do recall seeing that in the BIOS. I will try changing that when I get home and see if it helps.

Also, have any of you checked your FPS in Furmark or 3DMark yet? I am getting ridiculously low FPS...3-5FPS in Furmark and around 6-9FPS in 3DMark.

I'm really hoping not to have to RMA this board, as I have done so once already for the cold boot problem. However, I chose this board particularly because of the onboard video (I am not a gamer) as I figured it would be sufficient to use for a regular PC as well as light HTPC use. <10 FPS isn't going to cut it though.
