Damn, it's come down to $600 now!

The problem w/ that is that it's not a review.

It's some synthetic numbers on an insanely overclocked machine.

But i still really do want to see how this baby performs compared to the 8800 GTX (in an actual review).

Memory Express also is has the HD 2900 XT 1 GB now: a Diamond SI version.

Somehow I'm thinking an extra 512mb of V-ram slapped on there wont exactly help this card *that* much even if it has more bandwidth.

I agree, it has an insane amount of bandwidth. And since I traded off my GTS 640, i'm researching cards for a down the road purchase. 3-6 months or so. Maybe the refresh ( if there will be one ) will be better although not saying the R600 is bad in any way.

Maybe the 9xxx series from NV or the ATI ( what ever it will be named).

Because when I make my next purchase, I'll have Quad Core ( hopefully ) a 24" monitor.

Card has higher clocked core & RAM, as well as more RAM.

3dmark benches do not count anymore, IMO. i want to see real game-based benches, not theoretical testing suites.

Agreed. It would have taken them an additional 4 minutes? Maybe? to run a game bench. Why only include 3DMark which is proving to be truly less and less indicative of graphics card performance? 2900XT scores way higher than it should in 3DMark06 but this does not convey to actual gaming. So what does this tell us about 3DMark? That's right. Useless.

Well that website is trying to sell the card so I don't think they are interested in actual benchmarks. Just numbers to push a sale. It's not a review site, it's an online store.

Thought so.

I'm not quite sure where you're trying to go with this.

Both the HD2900XT Crossfire and 8800 Ultra SLI systems were benched using a Core2 Extreme @ 4.0 GHz.

I thought this was going to be exciting but turned out to be another boring 3DMark 2006 "benchmark".

He is totally trying to disrespect AMD/ATI, just as you suspect. Man you're as sharp as a tack. ;)

Seriously dude. He mentioned a 4GHz processor, nothing more. And he's right in a way. 3DMark* should never increase a single point depending on CPU speed. That is total BS. CPU's have a role to play in gaming, of course, but not the GIANT jumps in scores that we are seeing. How is one to gauge this information accurately? So, it's easier to dismiss 3DMark altogether and just focus on gaming benches.

I installed and ran 3DMark06 on my new system only because somebody had asked me to please use it and post my scores. Otherwise, I would have never put it on my system.

oh ok, i thought it was a review site. still, the bias is a bit disappointing :(

I for one ould rather see the individual`SM3 and SM2 scores than a score heavily influenced by CPU speed.

That's why you try to compare systems that are as close together in specs as possible. A 3DMark number by itself is meaningless. Comparing the 3DMark numbers from two systems identical except for the video card gives us a better insight into video performance (although not as good as actual game benches).

That's why I wasn't sure what Nightmare225 was getting at. Both systems look the same except for the video cards. Yes, a high 3DMark number is impressive, but being able to compare the two systems is more useful.

Could you try replying without the sarcasm next time? I thought you were the guy who couldn't stand rude people.

Sorry, I thought you could take such light sarcasm. I'll be more careful next time.

The amount of memory and bandwidth does open up some interesting possibilities though...*drool gaming at 2800x2100*

Good lord, at my etailer of choice these are $165 more than the 2900XTs I bought. :Q

I find it hard to believe that it would be worth the extra $165. Too bad there are no real gaming benchmarks yet...

The way that 3DMark judges processor "scores" almost seems arbitrary. I swear I've benched a single core and a dual core AMD64 with fraps running, and they honestly seemed to be getting the same framerates in the CPU tests - yet the X2 had a much higher score. It's kind of meaningless the way that processors are scored.

Who here has a 4Ghz Quad core? Thought so. That's a better way of putting that question.

I also have a "special" video card that gets more 3DMarks* than either one of those cards - it is priced great at only $800!! Act now and I'll include a free guide "How to Pwnzer Noobs on teh Internets"!

* @800x600 vs 1280x1024

(j/k - but that is about how useful benchmarks from a site selling the tested cards are)

I was going to say, wow, the oc'd card beats my 3DMark06 score by 35.6%, then I noticed it's a Kentsfield at 4GHz. Still impressive numbers though. Then again, the 1GB card will be $650Canadian at the end of June, whereas my card is down to $400Canadian after rebate, so a 62.5% price jump.
