I seem to recall apoppin saying that the 2900xt isn't as loud as a 1950xtx. I'm using a 1950xt right now, so I might be shocked and awed by the quiet nature of the 2900 pro 🙂

At stock speeds, the 2900XT is almost inaudible. When it kicks to higher speed while in 3Dmode you do notice an air whoosh. Not annoying, just a whoosh. But lord help you if you decide to throttle that fan to 100% (which you never have to do unless doing some serious o/cing). Brings new meaning to the word "loud". But there is no "whine" to the 2900XT fan as there is present in X19xx fans.

Looks like a great medium level card for those that cant afford the big boys!. Too bad its still as noisy as the XT series!. Now a know some of you will moan the noisy bit, however compared to the 8800 series, it is a 1/3 nosier again.

How do you know?

it is almost as quiet as the 8800GTS-640oc most of the time ... and the GTS is *exceptionally quiet*
--it is no "DustBuster" whining NV30 ... not even an 1800xt 😛
-i'd have to say that my old Sapphire x1950p/512M was more noticeable at idle and under load

However - and this is what the reviewers mean - when you go to 100% Fan, there is a "whoosh" that IS impressive [almost startling the first time i heard it] .. but i have never - ever - heard that happen in any game - except by forcing it once to 100% with RivaTuner.

Now, an UNDERclocked Pro is gonna be quieter still ... and use less power and generate less heat ... so ...

i'll let you know how it sounds and performs compared to my current GPU ... and then i want to check out CrossFire for cheap
🙂
