HD 2900 Pro at NewEgg....Do You Dare?

Razor is right. I'm sure the price will drop by $30-$40 once they rob the gotta-have-it now guys like me. I get to skate on this one though .....

Looks like typical first few weeks of price gouging. It should come down in a month.

I looked up specs for this card. The memory is 1600Mhz and the core is 600Mhz. It's basically a downclocked 2900XT. Not too bad of a price since the cheapest 2900XT I see on Newegg is $360 after MIR. Of course it's still above MSRP of $249 correct?

279.00 is way too much for this card. Even at 249 many people have said they wouldn't bite. It's best value is around 200-225.

At NCIX, the same card is selling for $290 CAD. Seems like it costs almost the same as Newegg as Newegg because of the High Dollar..... Hmm, maybe I should persuade my mom and get myself one of these beasts..

Remember, this is a "Limited Edition" release, don't count on prices dropping unless they don't sell fast.

For the same price as a GTS 320, this isn't that bad of a deal, considering it competes w/ the GTS 640 which is $80 higher.

Hopefully this will bring the GTS prices down.

That being said, i'll pass for now.

Wow, $286 shipped! At that price it will barely put any downward pressure on the 8800 GTS. Realistically, we'll probably have to wait for the next generation of nVidia cards before we start to see decent price drops.

Hang on before making any price judgement

it is only at 2 US etailers .. i don't expect *any* price competition yet 😛

next week
it's do-or-die for me and the Pro 😉

[sub 250]

i feel bad for the guys that are dying to upgrade
[me - it is just a bad "itch"]

Looks like most of us are gonna pass on this card. I knew this was going to happen. Oh well, lets just play the waiting game... again...

My 9800 pro/Mobile Barton system is really making me sad these days. I'm stuck in an endless cycle of being unwilling to upgrade my system because so much of it is behind. 15" LCD enables me to play pretty much any game if I'm willing to deal with low/medium settings, but I'm really looking forward to upgrading my system to Quad core/8800gts 640 quality system. But then I have a crap monitor, so it's a waste and I need to upgrade that too... and I'm out a ton of cash. But if I upgrade my monitor for visual pleasure, now I can't play any games and have it look decent... so I need to spend a good $800 extra on an upgrade.

Argh, I hate college.

Your X800 eh....you've been holding out for a long time!!! I jumped from 6600 non-GT to 8800GTS 320mb. However, World in Conflict and DiRT already give it problems at 1920x1080. Ah the videocard business.

These cards are just 2900XT's that didn't quite make spec. There are limited numbers, so I wouldn't count on the price going down. A couple of these in Crossfire would be a good high-end choice (with the added benefit of keeping your feet warm under your desk).

Sapphire will sell them at $300 and meanwhile lure you into their non-existent rebate program. $200AR, sounds good right? 🙂

I guess the best we can hope for is a $250 Sapphire model. Anyone know if they are coming out with one?

I think I'll keep waiting til November. Unless these go down to below $250. I don't want to pay for it though - hopefully birthday/christmas present. 😀

Well, the video card does have 512 MB of RAM. It might be able to serve a segment of high resolution users that the 320 MB 8800 GTS can't quite fit as well. If the video card performed at 320 MB 8800 GTS levels with better tolerance for higher resolutions, I would probably go for it.

However, in my experiences, ATI fans have been fairly loud, or at the least louder than their Nvidia counterparts. I'm really big on quiet computers, and if the ATI card gets pretty loud, then that's probably a deal breaker for me.

Same price as Canada. Is likely a result of the incredible shrinking US dollar. Sold out quickly here as they were perceived as being much better than the 8800gts 320mb - which is a little more. Also they gave 2 games with it.
