HD 2500 as good as HD 4000 in 2D?

Hi.

I'm choosing between two Ivy Bridge CPU:s with either HD 2500 or HD 4000 graphics. I would only use the onboard graphics for tasks such as playing video files, browsing the web, and editing documents.

Is there any performance gap between the two for such tasks, however slight, or does it only manifest itself in 3D applications like games?

You'll never notice the difference in general usage. For standard 2D and video playback acceleration, just about any GPU is more than adequate these days for just about any task.

NOPE not anymore,, since vista your video card matters. If your using XP then their the same thing.. 2D is nothing new,,, gl

There is a difference in video processing between HD3000 and HD4000, so I imagine that gap is wider when looking at the HD2500.

They use the same dedicated hardware. So there shouldnt be any difference.

The HD 2000 and 3000 are the same series and share the same features (Sandybridge), the HD 2500 and 4000 are the same series and share the same features (Ivybridge).
I'm not aware of a difference between the HD 2500 and 4000 in 2d mode.

Ah. This makes more sense to me.
