hey now now at least HTC didnt take til April this year to deploy Froyo like Moto did to the Milestone with clearcut problems like DSI errors still in the kernel.

At least the Desire is open where you can get SOLID custom roms with fixed kernel vulnerabilities, etc.

Yeah, this.

If you hate Sense and want 2.3 then go install cyanogenmod, its going to be as stable as you'd get from HTC anyway.

Although I always wonder about people who hate sense but get HTC phones and also dont like custom roms. :hmm:

this is why i won't buy anything other than cheapo android phones. my ipad 2 will get to ios 6 or 7 and it only has 512MB of RAM. android phones with the same amount of RAM can barely get one OS update

that's because it seems Android has 2x the RAM requirements as iOS.

Keep in mind, by that iOS6 update, the iPad2 will be nearly unusable. See iPhone 3G with iOS4.x. :p

Wish HTC would stop using their Facebook page for announcements. Their a major international corporation with billions of dollars in revenue. Act like it.

and so far the current news is that iOS 5 on the 3GS is very good. the 3GS was the first iphone with a decent GPU which probably explains it

exactly why if i buy a phone for $199 or more i'll get an iphone. but at $20 i love my HTC Inspire

and unless it's $200 for a nice tablet, i'll stay with ipad and not even look at any other tablet

Or you know, the custom skin has the memory consumption of twice that of iOS. I wonder how I'm currently using Gingerbread on my Droid X.

It should be completely unusable without 1gb of ram.

try doing gingerbread on 256mb of RAM. I've been there and it's horrendous. Even CM7 and the best memory tweaking won't save you.

GB requires 512mb of RAM easily. But that's still twice as much as iOS 4 requires. With that said my iPod Touch 4G isn't the fastest on 256mb of RAM, but at least it's not like a slideshow like my Milestone on 256mb :D

The Milestone was slower because of kernel issues, the locked bootloader required devs to use the shitty Moto kernels. The Droid 1 was able to actually have Gingerbread and optimized kernels. I dare say, my Droid 1 was more responsive on the home screens and OS UI under Project Elite with its 256MB of RAM than my Thunderbolt is under Froyo with 768MB of RAM. Course, that may just be the Sense bloat slowing things down. Once the RIL is finished and CM7.x and other AOSP builds begin showing up, I'll be able to make a better comparison.

Heck, since the 3GS has the iPad 1 and iPhone 4 GPUs, that won't be a problem for the device. If anything eventually the 3GS's CPU will fall behind, but even that I don't expect to happen soon.

The good news for the 3GS is that on the inside the iPhone 4 was incredibly ho-hum (the iPad 1 with 256 RAM was even worse).
