Does anyone else just not even care much about the case itself? I've just enjoyed watching the 2 leads at the top of their game, and the amazing writing.

It's a complex show. A lot of people don't like complex shows. Or can't/don't follow.

I care about the case only as a plot device, being the thing that causes the main characters to descend into madness. It is that descent that makes the show great. This isn't so much a who dun it, but the complex relationships and tragedy of the "True Detective".

Yeah, pretty much.

"My family's been here a long, long time". We pretty much know that the Tuttles/Childresses are the perps. It will just be interesting to see how the circle closes. :)

What I like about this show, is I think the writers are clever enough to use dramatic irony to give the audience a false sense of what they know. I'd say there is a good chance we don't know how is behind what.

You did see the "tall scarred man" at the end of the last episode, right? :hmm:

The first time we saw him he had a beard.

True, but he is no a Tuttle or a Ledoux , as far as we know. There is also the strange happenings with Hart's daughter, the deer, and we've no indication on which families haven't been in the area for a long time, except for Rust.

If you think you've actually figured everything out, then you missed all the references to the genre the writers seem to be following.

I think this theory actually explains a lot. Must see for anyone wondering about the identity of the Yellow King.

Who is the Yellow King?

However, don't watch if you haven't seen all the episodes up until now yet (which is all of them except the last one). Spoilers. It doesn't reveal anything from the last (as yet unaired) episode though.

Woah... I can't believe I didn't catch those obvious hints. I'm going to have to re-watch the first seven episodes.

I finally caught up on the last couple of episodes last night. For some reason, I can't connect the pieces together with Marty's direct involvement in the murders. I think people might be reading a little far into things with that angle. Hopefully there's a good shocker hidden away in the ending somewhere.

It's Marty's oldest daughter. She began murdering when she was 3.

This revelation drives Cohl to madness, and he kills Marty's daughter. Grief and rage drive Hart to kill Marty and place his head in a microwave and cook it until it explodes. Marty's wife shoots him to death and uses his blood to write "The Yellow King is Me!" all over the walls, then kills herself.

Pretty much like every Shakespearean tragedy.

I dont remember Rust sleeping with Marty's wife.
I never caught any connection to Marty's daughter being involved in anything.
Who is Hart?

he didn't just mow the lawn; he totally plowed that field (but no, they didn't sleep).

I dont remember Rust sleeping with Marty's wife.
He banged her against his kitchen counter in episode 6. She was pissed about Marty sleeping around on her and first went out and tried to get picked up at a bar, then went to Rust's place. She later tells Marty and then there's the fight between him and Rust.

I never caught any connection to Marty's daughter being involved in anything.
There was brief glimpse of the daughters playing with a naked Barbie surround by five guys (episode 2) that Marty saw. Then in episode 3 his oldest daughter Audrey is called out for drawing nasty pics of naked women and guys with stiff dicks. Marty looks through the pics and the last one is almost certainly of a man wearing a mask similar to those later shown in the video tape that Cohle steals from Billy Lee Tuttle's safe.

She's seen something, somewhere. But what/where/how?

Who is Hart?
Marty. It's his last name.
