Did anyone else notice that Reggie Ledoux didn't actually have the spiral brand that his cellmate (the ex of the first victim) said he had? Could mean any number of things.

I gather since Ledoux had been in prison there would be no question of his identity (since he would have been fingerprinted), so I don't think it's realistically possible that the man Marty killed was not Ledoux.

It's possible the former cellmate knew the significance of the spiral and told the detectives that in order to mislead them into going after Ledoux. That doesn't seem to make much sense either, since even without his statement to the cops, Ledoux would have seemed like the odds-on favorite to be the killer.

I guess it's possible it was a simple continuity error, but that seems unlikely, particularly since they included the reference to the brand in the "previously on True Detective" montage at the start. I just wonder whether it's a clue to something we don't yet know about.

Well, it looked like he had some kind of scarification on his back. That could have been the spiral. I don't think it wasn't him, just that he wasn't the only one doing that cult shit. It looks like there is a group, and Ledoux was just the tip of the iceberg.

I think Cohle finds out something far more sinister going on and goes off the grid. Perhaps the guy trying to get the task force appointed is behind it.

I finally decided to bing watch the first 5 episodes the last couple of days. I can see this becoming absolutely fantastic.

That entire episode did seem oriented toward the idea of Marty as the killer. We shall see but that seems to be where things are headed.

I hope not...and now I remember why I usually stay out of these threads...gah

edit: on second thought, I haven't checked that link, but I'm gonna go ahead and say that is a crazy theory and isn't going to be true

My GF and I had a conversation about this. We both agreed that from what we've seen of Marty so far, he doesn't seem smart enough to pull this off. But, I feel like there is something more than just him going out and banging sluts.

Watched the entire series up to current Saturday and yesterday. Wow HBO, I love you so much.

I disagree. We were pointed towards Marty earlier because we new of the big fallout between Marty and Rust. I assumed that if Marty was the Yellow King that he ended the relationship with Rust to get away from him. As we find out, though, neither Rust nor Marty were responsible for the big break, but it was Marty's wife who triggered it. If Marty was the Yellow King and has been playing Rust all along, that doesn't make sense. If Rust was the Yellow King AND he initiated the encounter with Marty's wife, I suppose that would make sense. But that didn't happen either.

So right now, I'm at:
Rust: NO. (Shown investigating and discovering in private. Not needed if he's YK)
Marty: NO. (Affair critical to the events. Not planned by Marty)
Tuttle: NO. (He's dead, the killings are still happening)

Here is what gets me though; Marty is shown having an affair, but not every night. Yet, he wears the same clothes for days. It also miraculously happens around the times when Rust gets a lead. Also, listen to his interview and how he describes Rust. He is clearly leaving out details (the affair and the fallout), and is constantly describing just how obsessive he is. Possibly, pointing the case in Rust's direction. The more I think about it, the more I feel it could be Marty, but that still seems far too easy with how the show is going.

Guys stop using the spoiler tags for stuff that's already happened... if someone reads this thread without seeing the show, then that person is a piece of shit, and I would like to get as many of them out in the open as possible.

It is Monday. I can give them the benefit of the doubt (especially considering the Walking Dead airs at the same time) until, at least, tomorrow.

This series will undo its own greatness if Marty is the killer. That said, I have previously thought it would undo its greatness and have been wrong (I thought it would suck if they made Cohle out to be the killer - they handled it deftly; and if the wife and Cohle slept together - again, handled deftly).

I think the writing is spectacular so far. Far above what you'd expect in a cop show. There is so much attention to detail in everything. I can't help but love it.

Did Rust mow Martys' lawn, or plow his field? :hmm:

If his wife is to believed, it was more of a plowing than a simply mowing. But, when you've got some hot young number calling you and asking for you to stick it in the holiest of holes, you probably ignore the wife a bit. >_<

In the "next week" preview trailer, they had a sketch of a possible Yellow King.

Looks like good ole Spaghetti Face is back

Did anyone else know the minute Marty laid eyes on "Beth" (T-Mobile employee) what was inevitable?

She also plays Rebecca Bowman on Banshee.
