After "all" of my friends told me to watch this show for years, I finally started at Season One on Netflix.

I am late 30s, I have watched a lot of movies and TV shows throughout the years, but I am now of the belief that this is as good, if not better, than the Sopranos.

I am currently finishing Season Two. Awesome.

Best drama series, ever??
 
The Wire is the greatest television show ever, I'm currently re-watching the entire thing. Nothing comes close. Bubbles is such a great character, don't wanna give any spoilers away, you gotta watch all 5 seasons. 2 starts out weird but was good. As Kev said The Sopranos was dogshit compared to this, sad it was the show that got all the attention and viewers.
 
In two weeks I will be starting the series. I am quite looking forward to it.

I think it's good that it didn't attract all the attention. Popular shows go to the crapper much faster than good shows that fly under the radar.
 
I recently bought the series but havent watched it again. I know once i do ill get hooked again. I was watching 8+ episodes a day on the weekend last winter.

Ok, then I wish the 5 seasons HBO aired had become more popular exactly how they were. It's a shame more people didn't get to watch this. I don't own a television so I was late to the party. I didn't watch the show until it was long off the air. I bought season 1 DVD and watched in in 3 days, then I bought the series box set. I'm almost like a religious nutt when I try to get people who haven't seen it interested in watching it. I hate 99% of TV but could watch this once a year and still be in awe. So many people totally missed the boat on this show and the word must be spread. I remember some Saturdays I'd wake up and watch 8 episodes in a row. I think I watched all 5 seasons in about 3 weeks. A shame it was a bit too early for HD treatment. Would be killer in HD widescreen.
 
I've only watched season 1...and I like it and will certainly continue watching...but I am not ready to say it is better than the sopranos.
 
I just finished watching all 5 seasons after being begged, prodded and constantly reminded to watch it by my friends/bro-in-law.

I kept telling them all I will watch it, but it won't be better than Dexter.

After watching it (all in the span of less than a month btw) I can honestly say, it was probably the best show i have ever watched, and trust me I was highly skeptical going into it.

I cant beleive I watched it faster than I watched Dexter even. I thought it would take me alot longer. I finished season 5 in two days, and was so amazed how they did the finale. Sopranos could have taken some notes and maybe re-did their crap finale to make it more like this one.

The writing, the acting, the story lines, the camera work, everything was right on the money.

Im now going to start watching The Shield to compensate for the lack of any more episodes of The Wire to watch lol.

The only other thing I can say is...

+1 for The Wire.

I bought the box set a little over a year ago and watched the entire series over 2 weeks or so. I need to get unlazy and rip my dvd so i can have quick access to it on my network or phone.

I too am watching The Shield now and am thoroughly entertained. It's not quite as good as the wire, but definitely still good. I'm a few episodes in to season 5 now.
