I bought a bunch of these and gave them to people for Christmas. The batteries don't last very long at all.

I bought a dozen, but I haven't seen any problem with the batteries. Anyway, they are replaceable, just unscrew the screws holding the case together.
 
Real photons last a long time. Cheap ones don't last very long and break pretty easily with some heavy use. So you definitely get your money's worth. The choice is basically if you'd rather buy new lights than new batteries
