I'm surprised no one has posted anything about this card yet. Reviews of it are quite bad, but it was $10 AR this weekend at CompUSA, so I thought I might give it a shot. Here's the website.

I have a Netgear 802.11g router, with three computers connected, and one laptop wireless. Friends are over all the time and connect fine as well.

I picked up the Hawking to replace a long cable going to a server. The retail box actually comes with a CD on the OUTSIDE of the box, labelled "The latest software and drivers are included in this pouch. Please do not use the ones included in the package."

So, I used the CD, installed the software the way it said to, installed the card, etc. The device looks installed, the software found the network, and I added the 128-bit WEP, Open key to the properties.

It says connected, connection "Excellent," but no IP address is assigned...all four items in the Support tab of the Wireless card's properties say "Unassigned." (Never seen this before.)

Tried ipconfig /all - shows only the motherboard's built-in adapter! Its as if its not there (yet it is). Tried ipconfig /renew, and it says "Can not renew address because TCP/IP is not installed. Double-checked it, and all is in there just fine.

Let me know if anyone has any thoughts. I've tried just about everything. I'm running this on Windows XP SP1, on an i845-based Intel box, 2.0ghz CPU, 1gb ram, etc. If I don't get any replies soon, its going back to the store (sad).

bump - anyone have a solution?

I emailed Hawking Sunday night. Just got a reply today (LOL!):

What is the serial number on the card?
Do you have win xp or win98?
Best Regards,
Hawking Technology (N)

Is this considered quality technical support nowadays? What a joke.

Anyone at all?

I exchanged another email with tech support. They said to try manually entering the IP address, which I did, but still nothing.

The odd thing is that when I do ipconfig /all, the Wireless card is not there. Hawking's utility shows it as connected, but no IP is ever assigned.

THis is going back tomorrow if I don't hear back from anyone. Whay a POS.

1. Does it appear as installed correctly in the Device Manger?

2. Did you try it at default, No WEP or any other security filter?

The Security filters have to be switched Off in the Wireless Router as well.

Sure enough - got a final reply today with a link to the latest driver, and it worked fine!

Kind of odd that not only did the CD inside the package not work, but the one taped on the outside didn't either. Not to mention that they didn't bother giving me the link below until I had told them what my current driver version was (without them asking!).

LINK to the download!
