This seems like a pretty good deal. I have never used a Hawking product, but I don't think the HWU54G can be as bad the Belkin F5D7050 USB adapters I bought (I can only get 1 out of 3 to work). Enough talking, here are the links...

Sometimes you can improve the reception by putting the adapter on the end of a USB extension cable and then position it for best reception.

That is exactly what I do with my card and the reception works good. I definitely love the accesibility of being able to plug it in without opening up the computer.
Also the shipping on the card is $6.00

Anyone know if this is limited to one rebate per household? As far as I can tell (I've read through it a couple of times) the rebate doesn't specifically say.

I need two wireless adapters and if I could get them both for $5 each after rebate on the same order (to save on shipping) that would be sweet. :)

Edit: Also, NewEgg says that this adapter supports WPA encryption, even though the Microcenter page and Hawking's own web page for the adapter here only list 64-bit and 128-bit WEP. WPA on these would be cool. Anyone actual own one that can say for sure if it is supported?

Edit again: This adapter uses the ZyDAS ZD1211 chipset which not only supports WPA-PSK and TKIP, but also AES-CCM encryption, so as long as there is driver support, encryption should be a breeze. :)

The two adapters I ordered from Microcenter arrived Friday and Tuesday. Both adapters installed easily on my Windows XP and Windows 2000 machines and connected to my Linksys WRT54G router at 54Mbps 25-30 feet away from the router. WEP worked great but I couldn't get either adapter to authenticate with the router when using WPA-PSK. This could have been my fault if I didn't create the key properly (I've never done WPA before) but overall they seem to be very fast and reliable adapters, especially considering they are only $5 after rebate. :)
