Is there anyone on these forums (not just limiting it to OT, it can be any ATF) that's crazy successful, like top of their field, stephen hawking, einstein, michael jordan successful?

Agreed. There are a few that come to mind.

The OS guys are REALLY smart, but not tops in their fields. Not yet anyways 😉

Software has some smart people hanging out in it too, now that I think about it.

I don't hang out enough in other forums to really be able to tell there...
 
I think there is way too much competition in the tech feilds, and the jobs aren't crazy bleeding edge enough to get big discoveries that get media coverage or sell millions of books like astro-physics is.

maybe if someone is college prof . . . . . they are generally keeping up with their field, and researchers are usually at the cutting edge. I've bet we got some researchers here. Anyone been published?
