Teaser: Hawken

This breathtaking footage is from Hawken, a first-person multiplayer mech game that’s being developed by an indie studio of 9 people, including the talented artist Khang Le (whom you may remember as part of the ill-fated Project Offset). Adhesive Games is using UDK to create the game, which will feature multiple team-based modes as well as a free-for-all deathmatch mode. There’s no word yet on release date or platform, but they’re targeting downloadable services for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.

Impressive stuff, but as is always the case with indie devs, I want to see these announcements when the game is close to being finished, not with a "release date unknown" which basically means "in a few years we might have a better idea of when."

Sniper mechs?? Interesting.

Personally I can't stand mech games that take the weighty feeling away from mechs though, to arcade-ish.

With an Alpha build like this to demo, I would think it will be out in the next year. Just guessing.

Looks like it's based off the Unreal Editor Development Kit that Epic released.

That would make it a lot cheaper to develop, which explains why only 7 guys are on the project.

Wow, win.

Except this isn't the type of mech game I've been wanting. I want something more tactical, strategic, slower. Not all twitchy. But that is a personal preference thing, and this still looks awesome.

Mech games are so rare, but they are all so different and unique.

It really is a great genre.

This. I REALLY want a new mech game, but this seems like a TF2 reskinned.

Mechs shouldn't be twitchy, and the first thing I thought of in the opening scenes was "ooh... that building's about to fall over on it's own - will this be mechs+destructible environments?"

Turns out it's really neither.

So is this a multiplayer mech game, or is there going to be a story driven single player campaign?

The reason why I ask is because I love Activision's mechwarrior series. Great gameplay, customization, based on a cool universe.

Damn, why did they stop making MechWarrior games. I have fond memories of playing Mech2 in 640 high res mode on my Packard Bell Pentium 75mhz. The thing would chug everytime there are a big battle going onscreen.
