Hawken, holy gpu physx!

Well said! Phys-x maybe a small augmentation of the environment, just how Tress-fx is a small augmentation of the character, but it is one more little thing to help you escape into another world.

+1 to AMD and Nvidia when ever they attempt to make the world slightly more realistic for our benefit.

Agreed. Yes, some of these effects could have been implimented without Physx, but I've never seen anything so awesome as the Physx in Hawken right now.

So here's my question. If all these games have the capability to make these kind of effects without Physx, why do we generally not see it in games today ?

I know there are a couple fringe games that would qualify, but most don't. Most games aren't even attempting to push that envelope.

Whatcha think about TressFX and it's usage it Tomb Raider compared to say BL2 or Hawken using PhysX?
well A : It's not proprietary
B : Doesn't completely ruin the immersion in Tomb Raider like it did in hawken I'm seriously the flames suck with it on high, the black stuff err debris that disappears and the USELESS particle effects on the shields like really ? it doesn't fit in with the atmosphere at all .

C : doesn't obliterate framerates as regularly as physX .

D did I mention it's not proprietary ?

I'd say her hair still appears and it still appears to move as we've had in games for a long time, even with TressFX disabled.
Therefore the addition of TressFX is fine, because it hasn't taken away the basic level of hair and hair movement.

The performance hit is equally as dumb as with particles filling the screen.

So your problem is with the computing performance and you not understanding the computational requirements from going from scripted to simulated events...gotcha!

Nothing is missing, why should devs go in and redo their crap after Nvidia goes in and enhances theirs?

Enhance.jpg

Most of the objects have some sort of predetermined effect taking place that the dev coded, what Nvidia generally does from my understanding is take the game the devs created and then add PhysX effects to things that are already there.

The force field has effects, it's just enhanced with PhysX. The energy collector has effects, it's just enhanced with PhysX. The health gobs have effects, they're just enhanced with PhysX.

Nothing was lost because the devs already made their game generally when Nvidia came along and "enhanced" it with PhysX.

Also assuming a dev did go back and used shaders to replicate something similar to what Nvidia did, it's going to look terrible in comparison anyways.

What performance hit? You can't run it.

And you still havn't documented your claim, but keep trying to paddle around that fact.

I am me...not some other poster, so here is what you do:

A) Report me to the mods AND document your claim.
(the sane, logically thing to do)

B) Knowing you have been caught in a false claim, you keep trying to spin this to be about me...in order to avoid admitting to making a false claim in the first place.
(The troll path)

Lets see what door you choose? ^^

here is the gtx260 run at 1920x1080 high settings and phsyx on.fps in the upper right.

edit: sry photobucket keeps squashing my images down. the fps is 26.18-38.19ms

Hey guys, found something interesting out by browsing the EVGA forums on accident.

Go to Precision X and enable 'framerate target' set it to 60, it really helps keep fluctuations in check and makes a much smoother gameplay with high Physx option turned on.

Of course your fps will be capped at 60 but in this title it seems to be worth it.

yeah its sp training.I did another run at 1280x1024 I think it was and no change in cpu gpu went down to 80% load.

should I try a online match?

Looks like you have a perfect bottlenecked system
But the game engine is very scalable otherwise you won't get 26 Fps @ 1080P

@ ShadowVVL You got owned because of poor frame-rate or something else? 😛 How 260 stacks against a GT 640 ? if it is close or exceeds Balla is spot on.

I am reporting you now:
First you make a false claim.
When called out on the false claim, you turn personal and accuse me og being someone else and keep trolling oftopic.

Chill man, I can't believe people can be so fond of smoke and debris 😀
