Having Wireless Router issues with Comcast

I am trying to share my cable modem using a linksys WRT45G wireless router, which I have used before and had zero issues.

My cable is comcast and my cable modem is an RCA DCM 305.

I can get the wireless working usually after I power cycle both the modem and the router, it disconnects and ceases to function after a random amount of time. This happens to the wireless or wired user.

It doesnt matter which. I have tried cloning the computer's mac address that originally had the cable modem to the router, this didnt work.

I am at a total loss as the last WRT45G i used worked perfectly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What area of the country are you in??? I have had the same problem, as well a few coworkers have. I am not sure what is causing it, but it seems to be almost symptamatic like the DNS issue they had before.

Yep, I have a wireless router, comcast too, ceases to work during random times. So then you have to reset... It sucks. I don't really have a solution for it.

the problem is in chicago in a northern suburb, I have no idea what causes it but really would like to fix it. anyone with ideas?

Wow. I thought I was the only one. Same exact problem. Comcast... San Francisco Bay Area.

Based on the reponses it sounds as if the problem is Comcast. However, you should try a firmware upgrade for your router if there's one available. Nothing to lose really.

I have Comcast - have had it for years. Every now and then it just loses contact. I finally figured it was the RCA modem I was renting from them. I changed modems to a Motorola Surfboard, and since then - all has been perfect, including a bonus of increased D/L speed to over 5 mbs.

I changed from a Linksys hard wired router to a Netgear wireless, and that works perfectly. So, I suggest to get rid of the RCA modem and get a Motorola or Toshiba.

Comcast, Motorola Surfboard and Netgear wired router here too.

Very dependable.

I've had a lot of problems with my RCA cable modem (have to reset it all the time to get it to work right). I set up a motorola at my brother's house and it's working much better.

And of course, try the router firmware update, too

Thanks for all the suggestions, but the cable modem the RCA is solid without the router..... its just when i hook up the router I get problems with dropping connections and loss of service. Any ideas?

It has nothing to do with Wireless.

It is probably a MAC authentication issue - How to Fix Cable/DSL Internet authentication (password).
