Hi, I just purchased this router and am having trouble setting it up. I hookep up all the wires correctly. My 3com cable modem (looks like a shark fin) uses some special cable called an "RJ45 cable" with only 4 wires in it. It will not work with standard ethernet cable (8 wires within). I plugged the wire from my cable modem to my router, and then 2 regular ethernet cables to each computer. Everything is hooked up ok.

When I congifure it by going to http://192.168.254.254, I set up some stuff, and everything seems OK. However, when I go to status, it says "Cable/Internet: Disconnected" I tried turning the modem on and off and made sure everything was OK, still no luck. Pleeeeeease help!!!! Thanks.

"RJ45 is used for normal ethernet. Use a normal ethernet cable from the modem to the router.

-=Marcus"

Nope, I can't run a normal ethernet cable from the router to the modem, I even asked tech support with my cable company. My modem specifically uses a thin "RJ45 cable" with 4 wires in it. I know that all the cables use RJ45 ends, but this specific cable is named "RJ45 Cable." I don't even think this is the problem, because it always worked from my cable modem directly to my computer....

Make sure that the port fo the router you are plugging your modem into is not an uplink, (for connecting router to router)

I had similar problems setting up a Dlink, only hitting the reset button on the modem did the trick.

Hope that helps!

First have you hit the clone mac address button? You need to do that. Then you need to hit the connect/disconnect or reset button or something like that that resets and connects. Not the reset button on the unit, but there is a reconnect button in the setup in your browser, can't remember what it is called exactly sorry. It is in the basic setup screen at the end of the list. I had the same problem getting mine to connect the first time. Once it connected the first time, it worked flawlessly.

If you are on the @home network, remember to put your computer name in the router. After I did that, it connected. Router works perfectly, zero problems here. (Bought it for parents).
