Having trouble (Outlook Express/Outlook)

Hello fine people of the software sub-forum

I'm having an issue here that I'd like to see if any of you have an easy solution for.

I'm trying to migrate e-mails and contacts from a few Windows XP machines using Outlook Express to a new machine with Windows 7 and Outlook 2010.

So far, the only semi-success I've had has gone like this.

1. Copy Outlook Express mail files from the WinXP machine to a USB drive.
2. Export the Outlook Express files to a comma seperated values file.
3. Paste them all into a folder on the Win7 machine.
4. Import e-mails and contacts to Windows Live mail on the new machine.
5. Export from Windows Live to Outlook 2010.

Steps 4 and 5 may seem pointless, but for some reason, I haven't been able to get Outlook 2010 to import the Outlook Express files. Windows Live Mail seemed to work fine as a go-between, but something is happening and it isn't exactly copying the e-mails correctly.

Is there an easier way to do this?

I really struggled trying to move my XP/OE mail to my new W7/O'03 machine. I don't remember exactly how I did it, but I know I didn't go through W Live at all.

I know Microsoft has a article on it and I'm sure I did a further search on it to get it done. It wasn't easy, but I didn't have to go through all of the 5 steps you mention.

a long time ago i had a similar sounding issue with Thunderbird. I solved it like this...

Backed up original emails first before tampering with anything and copyed down the Thunderbird client version that was on the source machine for backup purposes.

Upgraded Thunderbird to the same version that was on the destination machine...

Then i copyed my profile/emails over.

if you need 2 perhaps you can apply the same tactic to your prob

The easiest way is you can install outlook 2010 on the old machine without entering the product key, it will run 30day or 5-6 program launches, long enough to do what is needed

once installed when you open outlook it will see the there is an outlook express account and will ask do you want to import.

It will import both the messages and contacts
