Why do I even bother?

nyeturo989, sorry about not completely answering your questions and sidetracking things, but you should know bettter asking such a question on these boards 🙂

Shantanu

The $35k that I listed was for a '99(which was basically the same as the '98's) review that I saw at edmunds. Link.

From the article:
Build quality was atrocious for a $35,000 vehicle. The pasted-on side cladding on the driver's door was bubbling along the top edge. The front light assemblies, which house brilliant, high-intensity discharge (HID) headlamps, were loose. The Zebrano wood trim covering the center console was securely affixed, but poorly installed, with a large gap on the right side where it met the plastic of the console base. Other inconsistent gaps filled the interior, and the exposed screw heads behind the chromed door handles reeked of cheapness.

Here's a link to '98 MSRP's. It show's a sticker of $33,600.

As for the CR-V, Here's a review of a '97 CR-V. Base price is $19,400. Not too far off of my $19,000 that I listed.

I'm not even going to comment on the Passport, as it's just a rebadged Isuzu Rodeo. It's not a Honda in house build, and not representational of the rest of honda's lineup.

I like to off-road so I'm a jeep fan and disagree with much of the content of this thread. Therefor my answer is "Buy a Pontiac Ass-tek"

From the edmunds link:
Base MSRP of Test Vehicle: $34,125 (including destination charge).

Options on Test Vehicle: Locking Rear Differential, Power Sunroof, 3.73 Rear-Axle Ratio
MSRP of Test Vehicle: $35,145 (including destination charge)
Who's the fscktard now?

Also, that '99 is showing a trade in of $13,255. A nice depreciation of $21k and some change off the sticker price.

Marlin1975- LOL!!! My friend hates ford, and he calls the explorer, assplorer and assblower. I'll tell him you said Exploder. But My other friend hates Gm so he calls GMC a Gay Mahder Chod. If you're indian, you know what i'm talkin about. 😉

Why the hell does it matter? It's his choice, regardless of what your feelings are about SUVs.

GMC Envoys come in many different configurations you dumb@ss. Kind of like how the BMW 330 has a base price that's comprable to a well loaded 325, get it? The most basic GMC Envoy from 1998 had an MSRP around $25K 😛

I hope that gas prices will go so high that you'd be paying $5 a gallon! Now see whether you want a car or an SUV.

If you want $5 gas prices, move to Europe, otherwise leave your oil opinion elsewhere.

You should walk or get a bicycle.

You linked specicially to a '98 GMC envoy. The '98 and '99 Envoys came in one style, with only around 4 options. It was nothing more than a Jimmy trim level decked out with every bell and whistle that GM could tack into it and labeled "Envoy". Chevrolet put out a similar thing called a "Trailblazer" that was nothing more than a Blazer blinged out with all the gadgets and Gizmos. It retailed for a similar price, and suffers a similar abysmal resale.

Get your fscking facts together before you start name calling.

Why did you bother replying to my post? It doesn't matter. It's my choice.

I think you should get the Pathfinder. I like Nissan cars and I want you to subsidize Nissan's R&D with that fat SUV profit margin. It's a great SUV too, go get it. 😀

Ah, yet another situation where the domestic-zealot Shantanu was proven that he has the intellect of a 5 year old. Good going, you've sunk to a new low! 😉

Not exactly Shantanu's strong suit if you hadn't already noticed.

Sorry but I don't want to pay insane prices for parts that Foreign autos bring, nor do I like the insane small engine areas that I am expected to work in. I would much rather have domestic. The build quality on my explorer is great. My parents 97 Eddie Bauer is in excellent shape with 80k on the odometer.

As far as price goes, I doubt I will ever buy new again. I would rather buy 1-2 years old and get he nice discount of depreciation. The domestic might have a SLIGHTLY higher rate of depreciation and I will eat that up.

Never had a problem with any of my or my family's fords. Not sure why people think Imports are so much better. My friend used to be honda freak but he converted due to the fact that domestics are ranking at or above import levels in build quality, cheaper parts, and the aftermarket is awesome for any domestic.

FWIW- I think the Explorer might be somewhat more reliable (if for no other reason because it's not a new model like the Envoy). However, I really like the I-6 they stuck in the Envoy....looks like a great motor for the price.

nyeturo989, thanks for asking your SUV question. Although the specifics of your question were of passing consequence it did provide an opportunity to view the kinds of things that happen when a people, perhaps too eagerly and vigorously attack other people who have opinions instead of confining their disagreement to the opinions themselves.

Hehe....my spidey-sense tells me that Moonbeam is actually a sociology PhD candidate doing research on the interaction of nerds in a closed environment (eg- ATOT) and that we will all be the subject of his Nobel prize-winning dissertation on that subject some day.

......and then we'll all flame each other over whether Moon or GWB actually deserved the Nobel that year. 😛
