Having trouble loading C++ program for school

As the topic implies, I am having trouble loading a C++ program (Visual C++.net standard). The program came with the book I had to get for the class.

This is what happens: I put in disc 1, load the beginning stuff like where I would like "would you like to load this program into drive C." It then says at the storage screen (previous quote) "please insert Visual C++.net standard prerequisite for security purposes." I insert the disc and wait for a minute. I press the ok button which says I have put the disc in, but it doesnt find it for some reason and it keeps asking me to put in the prerequisite disc in. When I go look in the cd drive in my computer, it says there is a disc with 632mb in it, but it doesnt do anything when double clicked.

I have this problem on a Asus Z71. Now before you say the disc reader isnt working right, I should say it doesnt work on any of my friends computers. The program seems to have a bug in it or something because every student has the same problem, nothing happens when you insert the prerequisit disc.

I put this in the Highly Technical forum because most people would say screw it, go kill yourself. So maybe one of the people who reads this stuff might be able to help.

Why dont you go to the website of the book you bought... usually there is errata and help provided for any software that comes with it.
 
Take it back to your campus bookstore and tell them the cds are defective, they should have no problem replacing it.
OR, see if your school's CSC CIS or whatever you are taking department has a copy for loan... My school gives out academic versions of Visual Studio.Net 2003! Its great 🙂 FULL versions, which supports VB, c++, c#, etc...

What i meant was go to the website of the books publisher... duh.

you bought a deitel & deitel C++ book. On page 53 there is come code which you typed in and it didnt work (or your cd didnt work or whatever). So now you go to deitel.com and look at the errata which tells you... yeah we effed up the code on page 53, here is the real code and it will be fixed in the next edition.
its called the errata page. There is one made for nearly every textbook in print.


the bookstore doesnt give a fvck about your troubles... you must contact the publisher.
 
Well Id like to know if theres anything I can do before going to the publisher because theres are about 450 students with the same problem, and if its something that can be changed on the computer side, Id like to try it.

Otherwise theres probably thousands of bad discs in circulation and I dont know how long it would take for the publisher (or C++ program designers) to ship the right program to my dorm. Oh well. Just another sh!ty day in college.
