Having trouble copying files from DVD - Solved!

I can copy the .ISO files from a custom DVD I had made but the copy doesn't match the same file on the DVD - I do both a checksum and an MD5 hash on the files. I can run the CS or the MD5 on the files on the DVD repeatedly and they are always the same and the MD5 matches the one posted for the file - but the copies never match the original. What's worse they haven't been the same as each other on several attempts. I have a relatively new CDRW/DVD Combo drive and since I can repeatedly get the correct number when reading from the DVD itself, I don't think that is the problem. And the hard drive has been tested four ways from sunday with no problem.
. I wonder if the copy function in Win98 isn't capable of handling files that large reliably...

. Any suggestions?

I believe you are correct, as to the OS, ie; win98. I think you need ntfs to do large block copy's.

Thanks for the reply. I've just installed W2k, so I'll give that a try.

Well I tried to copy with Win 2k and still no joy. So I DLed xxcopy and tried that with byte-by-byte verify and special cache settings - no joy.
. Then I thought about it for a while and realized that this was the first time my MSI X48 Combo drive had been presented with a burned DVD and that it had worked OK with the manufactured DVDs from the Novell Linux kit.
. So I DLed and flashed an updated firmware for my Combo drive and it worked! File this one away in your strange solutions file...
