Having trouble booting windows from SATA

I just got a Raptor hard drive and I have an Abit IC7 motherboard. I booted from a WindowsXP cd and it went through the install process and put windows onto the raptor drive. Windows install detected the drive so I assume I dont need any sort of drivers, right?

The install goes fine and I get to the point where windows is supposed to start for the first time, but all I see is a blank screen. I set windows to boot from the raptor in BIOS, but it wont. I am trying to reinstall windows to my IDE drive again now, but I really want windows to be on the raptor.

Any ideas?

thanks.

Did you give windows your SATA chipset drivers at the beginning of the install? I believe it says Press F6 if you need to supply any extra drivers. Then it'll ask for the floppy disk and that's it.

These are the drivers for your sata chipset. If you are plugging the drive into the mobo it should have come with it, or download it.

Here's some info from an Abit owner who evidently found the magic formula:
i'm not sure if it made any difference, but i aslo installed all the sata drivers during the windows installation - although i definitely installed an sata disk before on a different box without having to do this (but it wasnt win2003 - so maybe that needs it)

but where i think the main problem was - was in the bios settings - here are the settings that worked for me (this one is without raid - im waiting on a second disk to set up the raid):

note - these are from memory (and from your other thread) - i dont have the box in front of me atm:

Under Integrated Peripherals -> OnChip IDE Device:
IDE Bus Master - Enabled
OnChip Serial ATA - enhanced
OnChip Serial ATA Mode - ide
SATA RAID ROM - Enabled

Advanced BIOS Features:
Hard Disk Boot Priority - 1. Bootable Add-in Device
Bootable Add-in Device - Onboard sata
Boot Other Device - Enabled
Have fun :p

I have to disable all sata/ide channels except for the intel sata [which is my C:Drive], and install windows. After install i then enable other controllers and set boot priority to my C: drive. Not sure if this will work for you as i have a gigabyt e 8knxp, but it might, had the same problems with my wifes Abit board, and my sons albatron.
