I guess im old school. I had no problems keeping up with my game discs, and this was before DVDs!!! In fact Ive still got em.

I had no problems finding great deals on PC games in the pre-steam era, and I loved the fact that I could sell any game once I was through with it.

Hell, I could even keep all my games up to date manually! LOL

Sure was nice to be able to buy one copy of a game and run it from as many PC's as I liked, all at the same time as long as the IP was the same. Ah, but DRM came along and ruined all that. Now I have to by multiple copies of everything the family wants to get in on. BLEH!

There are some good points about steam and origin. The biggest one being that if I suffered some sort of disaster and lost my games in a flood or fire, all would not be lost.

The browser grew on me, I now prefer it. Also, I never had to use the browser to launch the SP campaign.

Browser is only for MP I believe. At first, I was weary but then I remember how awful DICE was at making even the most basic of server browsers and gave it an honest try. Now, I love it. I can search for servers, manage stats, wait in line, all while doing things on the desktop and the MP exe launched when it is ready to play.

Hello EA marketing.

LOL ok.

I see no difference between how BF3 launches a game and a normal game does. It's actually much faster. Also, you get to do other useful things like browse the web while you connect to servers and other things.

The web based interface also allows them to release patches to their UI and server browser that you don't have to download. It's a superior solution to an in game menu and server browsing system. Use it for any length of time and you will come to agree.

As for Origin, anyone complaining about it being inferior to steam has not used it. I have had issues with steam on a daily basis for the last 8 months and have had zero problems with Origin. Games also download faster for me on Origin. My steam will not stay online anymore. I'm forced to delete a file in my steam folder any time I want to connect, and there is no fix for the issue.

I'm not EA marketing. I'm just not some fanboy blinding by hatred for EA like all the other people who have no experience with Battlelog or Origin spouting nonsense in this thread.

From what I can see browser is req for single player also. When i click launch battlefield it goes straight to browser first.

I'd say no, single player is useless. I have over 700 hours logged in BF3 multiplayer and have never made it past the first mission in the SP campaign...

Bah, 19GB download, so I leave it on overnight to download and wake up to see it is only 6% complete. Hopefully by the time I get home from work tonight it will be at 12%! :\

KT

Well it showed 23% downloaded initially when I got home, but then it decided I only had 17% and is downloading from there. This is the biggest piece of crap nonsense BS I've encountered when trying to download a game. F this stupid crap.

KT

Edit: woohoo, just hit 18%.

Edit2: Yay, 22% after 37 hours of downloading. Honestly, F Origin and F EA I know this all went to charity but supporting their BS nonsense in any respect will never, ever, ever, happen again.

That sucks. Origin is more reliable than Steam for me in terms of maxing out my connection.

Exact opposite for me so far. I get max download with Steam all the time. I just now hit 57% for BF3. At this rate I should at least get to try it out tomorrow.

It couldn't possibly have anything to do with the nearly 1.2 million other people trying to download BF3 because of this bundle lol. Steam has the same issue when a new big game releases.

I usually get 3.2mb/s to origin and 2.5mb/s on steam.

It is a little annoying but I don't mind it. It isn't changing with BF4 though. At least not with what they have shown as battlelog will be a large part of the experience. They plan on a tablet app that lets you place markers and look at maps and stuff like that. Change weapons in game from it

I have not used it because I got it to run maybe 3 times after I bought BF3. Then I used the hack to get around using the browser, just to play the game I bought mind you. Then they closed down the loophole that got around it and could not use origin since.

So yes i want to buy BF4, but no I'm not because I can't play it. I remember my fond days of BF3 not because of the fun i had, because of the frustration with Origin (It took my almost 24 hours to download the game from it on 100meg connection btw). Think that bodes well with people wanting to use it? NOPE.

If you want to go blow smoke, go have a dart.

I hope they rethink this with Battlefield 4 and use some kind of in-game menu and server browser. This feels cheap using my Google Chrome to launch the game.

And how much did you pay for your bundle exactly? Not saying it's an invalid complaint, but it is funny that you say it "feels cheap" when you probably got the game for very cheap indeed. Imagine the poor people that payed $60 for the game and they still turned it into a DLC scheme.

Not that I have any room to comment, because I don't own the game.

YES! Dice has always sucked when it came to creating server browsers.

Wow, something is definitely wrong there. I was able to download both Medal of Honor and Crysis 2 (about 20GBs total) during the peak bundle rush in just a few hours.

Used to hate the browser idea myself, then when you go back to a game like BC2 and you manually have to check your stats via google search then you realize just how handy Battlelog really is and how out of date BC2 stat checking is.

I went from hating it to loving it,only thing that still annoys me is if the game crashs for some reason, attempting to join any other server pops up the ea online error and reopening the browser is the only fix lol.

Yeah I can't figure it out. It's been three full days and I am now at 72%. It keeps stalling and I have to restart Origin to get the download to resume. When it's downloading it's around 2MB/s which is not great, but still shouldn't take this long.

^ that is really odd. did you try canceling the dl and restarting? maybe something went fubar early on that is causing it to mess up this download.

what kind of fps do you guys get in this game? I am able to run ultra + 4x msaa with 60 fps but in heavy firefights it drops down into the 50's.

As I said in my previous post. Origin is getting absolutely hammered by traffic because of this bundle. There are 1,270,000 people all trying to download these games at once just because of the bundle. It makes perfect sense to me that it's going slow right now.

Say the people who got it are all trying to download 3 of the games at once (it could be all 8 of them), so now you have close to 4 million downloads going and that's just on top of the normal traffic origin is seeing. This is likely creating more load on their servers than any Triple A title could on it's own.

Finally got it downloaded. Had to keep cancelling and restarting it, but it finally got there.

Played for a bit. Looks nice, but not sure I actually like the game. :D

Is vanilla BF3 even playable online anymore? Or must you have the expansions?

Vanilla BF3 is fine, heck some maps like Metro are jam packed with players while my favorites being Close Quarter maps are few and beyond server and player wise.

Heck i never found a reason to go premium and the CQ maps i got only cause of the promo code EA gave away some time ago.:)

Betting i am one of the few colonel 100 players without premium in BF3.
