I can't seem to view the channels on my VCR, nor can I record off of them. Heres how I have it set up, let me know if this is right. Cable comes into the house and goes to the in on the cable box, then goes out from the cable box into the in of the VCR then goes out from the VCR to the back of the TV. Thats how it should be hooked up right? Now what else do I have to do to get it to work?

I assume you mean is the TV on channel 3, or is the VCR output channel set to 3, and yes to both of those. I know the TV/VCR is set to VCR since I can flip through all the channels, the problem is they all show up as a blue screen. One other thing, I just used the auto channel set thing and it set like 5 channels and most of those 5 don't come in well. It's almost as though the cable is not connected from the cable box to the VCR, but I know it is.

Strange. Try plugging the cable box directly into the TV and see if it works then. Sorry I couldnt be of more help. You also may have a setting on your TV for air/cable. What model cable/tv and vcr do you have?

why is there a question mark on your thread title? Are you not sure if you're having trouble with your VCR? From what you have described, I would say "yes, you are having trouble with your VCR." Hope that answers your question. :)

Some cable boxes do not have a bypass for the signals.

Put your VCR and TV both on channel 3 and change the channels on your cable box. I'm assuming that your cable box output is set to channel 3.

The problem with this is you cannot watch a different channel than what you are recording.

If you don't have any premium channels, ditch the cable box. Otherwise you need to change channels on the box only.

If it's one of those old Jerrold box's thats your problem, the way you have it the box needs to be on the channel you want and the VCR on ch.3 for it to record. Try cable-vcr-tv and see if that works.

The latest digital boxes also only put the signal out on channel 3.

It doesn't matter if it is old or new box the concept is the same. Since the output of the cable box is on channel 3 the VCR will have to be on channel 3 to recieve the signal. The VCR's output is on channel 3 so the TV will have to be on channel 3. Change the channel on the cable box.

You could also split the coax to both the TV and the cable box if your TV can handle two inputs and your VCR will output a compontent signal. There are a couple of other varations depending on what your equipment can handle. If your cable box will output S-VHS get a S-VHS cable and run it to your TV, etc.
