Well, I bought a Koutech 4+1 USB 2.0 PCI Host Controller Model #KW-2580N4 and there's a problem.
I installed it into the box with the Intel VS440FX mobo for the Pentium Pro 200 and Win98 recognized it right away. HOwever, it repeatedly asks for the drivers and then the Win98 CD and reboots and again reports it has found new hardware and repeats the installation. This will apparently repeat as long as I'm willing to let it.
Meanwhile, if I cancel the action and enter Device Manager there are 4 USB entries with two of them listed as having a problem. The good ones mention NEC and the other two refer to USB uhhhh, you know, the node thing. Well, those are listed as having been installed bad or just not working.
Help, please.

bump cause i would probably steer you wrong

things to check

usb enabled in bios

a newer bios revision that supports 2.0 if the mobo doesn't from the factory

are all intel (updated) drivers for your board current and able to support usb 2.0

take a visit to their (Koutech)website possibly newer better drivers listed there or a fix for your mobo

www.google.com will be your best help in finding answers on drivers and revisions etc...

from koutech.com

If you are having trouble installing the USB Controller card under Win 98, typical problems are; system won't boot up, conflict in Device Manager with other devices.
Here is one way of solving these problems, swap the card in a different PCI slot until the system install the proper files in the directory.

Question 3: What is the proper way to install the KW-580 if the drivers do not install automatically?
Answer 3: The KW-580 uses the Windows native driver, and you can install the drivers in the following ways.
1. Windows detects the card as a new hardware and asks for the driver
or use "Add New Hardware" under Control Panel to install the driver manually.
2. Choose to select hardware from a list.
3. Double click on "Universal Serial Bus Controllers".
4. Choose "Standard USB Host Controller".
5. And choose "Standard Universal PCI to USB Host Controller".

this one seems to fit the best
