having problems with newly upgraded comp

Alright,i just finished upgrading my computer with

-amd athlon 64 3200+
-geforce 6800 gt
-asus k8n mobo
-1 gb of kingston ram
-new case and power supply

only thing i didnt upgrade from my old computer is the 80gb hardrive,the cd drive,and the floppy drive,now my problem is everytime i boot up(have windows xp pro on harddrive) i get to the screen that says====starts windows normally,start with last known good configuration,safe mode,safe mode with networking,safe mode with command prompt,ive selected all of these but all the computer does is restart and send me back to the same screen the only other screen i can get to is the bios screen,if anyone knows what the problem is or what i can do to maybe fix this it would be greatly appreciated ty for ur time.


and my 2nd question is,my second upgraded comp with

-amd athlon 64 2800+
-msi k8m neo-v mobo
-1 gb kingston ram
-new case and powersupply
-new 80gb harddrive

only thing i didnt upgrade is the vid card,which i got out of first comp,cd drive,and the floppy disk drive---the problem is everytime it boots up it reads via rhine II fast ethernet adater v2.33 (2004/01/05)XE-E61: Media test failure check cable, and i have no freaking idea what it is talking bout there,and if i try to start up with boot disk it just says, select proper boot device and reboot,but i have my proper device hooked up...it just wont read from the disk,so if u have any help or suggestions on these to topics it would be greatly appreciated ty

Did you just try to plug your old drive into your new motherboard? If you did so without uninstalling all the resources from your old board, you may have all kinds conflicts with the devices, drivers and addresses in your old registry.

I've done it before, but even if you take the time to uninstall the old drivers, etc., there's no guarantee it'll work without re-installing Windows from the ground up, especially if you're running XP.

Does your old board use a VIA chipset, too? If you want to try, you can reconnect the drive to your old board and uninstall all the VIA drivers, the vid card, and anything else that is specific to your board. Then, reboot, and the system will find your new hardware and ask for the disk for your new board.

If you want to be safe, Ghost your drive before you start. This is a dicey move, and you could lose all your information.

alright well ty for ur reply but main reason i have upgraded is because my old processor had burnt out on me,old 2100+xp ,and so i just pretty much bought whole new system,except few things listed above so i cant plug my harddrive into my old board,and so where would i go from here,sry to be so,non smart on yall,usully i just deal with the software on computers and let my good friend deal with the hardware,but he wasnt here to help me with this so im all alone .but thx again to anyone who can give me help ,i greatly appreciate it

If you can't bring up your old motherboard, you may have to re-install Windows.

If you can boot to Safe Mode, you can try what I suggested, but first, back up all your data. It could be lost in the exercise. Go into Device Manage, and delete all the VIA and other drivers that relate to your old board. If your vid card is working, you can probably leave that alone.

When you reboot, the system will find your hardware and ask for the disk with your drivers. If it works, and you got all the conflicting info out, you may come out of this without having to re-install the OS.

If you have a good registry cleanup program, such as WinDoctor in Norton System Works, run it. It will find and delete a number of remaining conflicts.

i think ur method would work harvey but i cant even boot into safe mode,when i boot up my computer it brings me to a screen with different functions to boot in,normal,command prompt,safe mode,etc... and gives me 30secs to choose,i know everyone must have seen this screen atleast once,but when i select safe mode my computers restarts and returns me to the same screen,does this mean i might have to buy new harddrive? or is their a nother way i might be able to fix this.

If you have a friend who will let you temporarily connect your drive to his machine, copy any files you need to save.

If it isn't set to boot from the CD before the hard drive, I hope you can get to the CMOS. Set the it to boot first from the CD (or second after the floppy), try to boot from your Windows CD, and do a new installation. Your data may survive, but you'll have to re-install all of your programs, too.

alright yes i can get to the bios screen and from their i put the boot up device as the floppy 1st and the cd drive 2nd and i also have my Data Lifeguard Diagnostics utility floppy in the floppy drive,and i have my windows xp profresional cd in the cd drive, but everytime i boot up the comp it gives me this command:

Reboot and select proper Boot device
or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key

any suggestions to go from here,maybe ive done something wrong but any other advice would help out

It could be a defective motherboard.

i second the possiblity of a defective MB.

However, if you can get the windows cd to boot you could do a repair on the drive and that will realign windows with your new hardware, and then from there install the right drivers for MB, GC and the like.
