Having problems with a Linkysys BEFSR41

(This is unrelated to my other post.)

My Linksys keeps quitting on me. Every few hours, it "blinks" - every computer connected gets disconnected from it, but reconnects after a few seconds. Every couple of days, it will (for no reason - this happens randomly, so there's nothing in particular that sets this off) disconnect all the computers from the network and sit idly until someone goes and resets the router.

I'm wondering if there is a known problem with Linksys BEFSR41s and if there's a practical solution? Besides replacing the router?

Currently, I have 8 computers connected to it - through a few switches down the line. The switches work fine - no problems there. I was told there may be packet collisions, but I'm not sure if this is the case, since this does not always happen during high bandwith usage.

Thanks,
Jason

When you say 'disconnected', you mean from each other PC, or from the router/internet.

Maybe the reconnect option in the router config pages?

I have had the same problem as you. You can read my post on the issue. Sucky Linksys

EDIT: What I meant to say was that newer versions of the linksys router have had problems with disconnects and such. The problem it seems is that the router gets either overwhelmed by packets or it has some firmware problems. It's been well documented that everytime linksys comes out with a new firmware to fix some problems, new problems will come out. I noticed that these problems have been happeneing to the Version 3 of the router. Everybody who has a version 2 of the router has had no problem of disconnects. weird.:cool:

i have the same router as well. i set up a web server on my computer, but it won't let anyone outside of the local network see it. even if i turned on dmz. its in gateway mode, dhcp enabled.

What firmware are you using? Have you upgraded it recently? I used to have some random disconnecting problems, but once I upgraded the firmware, all has been fine. Good luck.

Log in to the router's setup page. On the first screen, the firmware version is listed right below Host Name and Domain Name.
