Having problems overclocking Opteron 165 on a DFI DR-Expert

I can get 300HTT on the Opteron 165 no problems (9x300 = 2.7Ghz)

BUT my ram is running at a pathetic 150Mhz (DDR300) and everytime I increase it to 200Mhz (DDR400) the system refuses to load into Windows.

I'm using a pair of Kingston HyperX DDR500 ram 1Gb kit ... TESTED to an Abit AN8-32X motherboard with the same processor ... NO PROBLEMS (9x300 = 2.7Ghz).

Can anyone help? I think it's to do with memory configuration in the BIOS ....

increase MaxAsynch Latency by 1ns or turn to "auto"
increase Read Preamble by .5ns or turn to "auto"

usually need to increase MAL by 1ns at ~250mhz, ~300mhz, ~340mhz very roughly

MAL and RP stabilize high HTT speeds

I tried what you said ... selected AUTO ... but it still fails to load Windows.

I'm trying to use a 2:3 divider ... 200 RAM:300 FSB ... but it fails to load Windows

What other specific settings are needed in the BIOS ?

okay forget auto

Expert is probably querying wrong info the the ram's SPD tables

try MAL@ 8ns
RP @ 5.5ns

if no go, try:
9ns
6.5ns

if those aren't allowing you to use the 133mhz divider, ????? then your Optie may not be able to handle dividers well (many Opties don't like dividers). but since you have used this combo before on a previous mobo, it begs the question: have you ever fed the Optie high volts? thinking mem controller seems whacked.

what chips are on those rams?

Tried what you've said ... No luck :(

I've set everything to AUTO and opted for 1:2 divider (100Mhz) ... Works OK but ram speed is 150Mhz

150 RAM:300 HTT

However, if I set the HTT back to 200 ... I can get the 7:6 divider to work

226 RAM:200 HTT

The strange thing is ... it works GREAT with my other Abit AN8-32X mobo.

226 RAM:300 HTT

UPDATE:

OK ... here's what I've done

I've selected everything to AUTO

Multiplier at x9
HT multiplier at x3
Default CPU voltage
DDR voltage at 2.75v

HTT at 300
Divider at 3:4

System now reports ...

225 RAM:300 HTT
