Having Problem with my Hard drive? Need Help!

I am running Asus A8n-sli, fx-55 and Maxtor Diamond 10 300GB Sata. My hard drive was working fine for 2 weeks suddenly it is not getting detected in Bios. It runs only when I changed power cable and serial cable but doesnt last for long amd sometimes changinf cables doesnt even work. I am using koolace HD liquid cooler with it but i dont think there is any relation to its malfunction, might be the paste that came along with koolance product which has to be applied on HD surface but the material is a non conductor. I dont know the exact problem but i am thinking of returning it to maxtor, what do u guys suggest is there any other solution to this problem.
for further info: i am using lastest bios 1003, no raid implemented using just one Hard drive! 550 w antec psu.
 
does it screw up when just the HD/GPU are plugged in? try the bare minimum required to get your machine to post. It could be the HD...or it could be the Mobo, have any spare drives to try in the boxen?
