Having problem with computer/new LCD monitor resolution

I just got a new 22" LCD monitor and started playing around with my video card's resolutions.

My video card is an ATI Radeon 9800 (non-pro).

I am able to set the resolution to 1440x900 in windows and it works fine. However, after I restart, the screen goes black and says no signal input right after I load into windows.

The only way for me to get it back is to blindly set the resolution to a lower value (by using the tab key since I have no clue where the mouse cursor is).

Can anyone tell me why the resolution is fine before restarting but I can't see anything after restarting? Also, how do I (if possible) fix this issue?

THANKS

If you have an nvidia card download the latest drivers and set the resolution through the nv control panel. Not sure why windows keeps reverting to an incompatible resolution.

My guess is that new drivers and setting res through the respective utility MIGHT help. Good luck!
