Just wait 'til later in life when you buy a house and people start throwing credit at you. I get at least two pre-approved credit offers in the mail every single day. I honestly throw away more of my mail than I keep on a daily basis since it's all crap offers.

Same here. I have been pre-approved for every credit card and mortgage possible.

go buy a piece of furniture by paying in installments. pay it off on the first installment too if you can.

Now you have a credit rating. Sure it'll take a month, but it is worth it. And you won't have to get those credit offers that you have to pay for.

Bad credit? No credit? No problem!

Maybe the utility companies in question will let you open an account with a security deposit.

We got an AMEX platinum offer a few days ago (why, I do not know). The benefits are actually pretty nice (especially if you travel a lot), but the annual fee is crazy.

I know Sprint will, hell, I have STELLAR credit, and they still charged me a $100 deposit when I started landline phone service through them.

I refuse to take anything with an Annual Fee right now. Plus my Continental Airlines MC is working out great for me.

You're right, having no credit sucks hardcore and will suck even more in the future.

I would recommend fixing that as soon as possible. Try to rent a car or hotel room without a major credit card, it's possible to do with a debit card but not as easy.

Do yourself a favor, save up $500 cash and get a secured credit card.

Use the credit card, pay it off every month, after 1 year, get your deposit (collateral) back and you'll have cc offers overflowing in your mailbox.

I am not from the US.
Could somebody be nice enough to spend 5 minutes and actually explain to me how this whole "credit" circus works ?
Seriously

Thanks in advance !

You can get a credit rating just from doing that? I thought it took longer than that. I am working on trying to build credit, but so far all I have done is make one time purchases with my card. I haven't done anything where I make regular payment installments.

I love my Blue.

But I know what you guys mean. Ever since I bought the house I've had a nonstop stream of pre-approved offers. The worst ones are the pre-approved lines of credit with interest rates of 19%. Give me a break!

Oh and to the poster... Having no credit isnt that bad. Having BAD credit SUCKS.

I went through college without a credit card. Shocking, yes, but it does happen. Scholarship and a job paid for everything I needed. However out in the real world, I hit the same wall. I bought a sofa bed from a local furniture store. Because I had no credit, they let me set up an account with them. If i had bad credit i would have to pay in full or pay a high charge rate. I put half down and signed up for their 90 days same as cash. I was to pay them a third of the remaining balance each month, for 3 months. If I was a day late or didn't pay it all off by the end of the ninety days, I would be charged interest on the whole amount from the day I purchased it.

I guess they get a lot of sloppy buyers who pay way more than they should but that's them not you. Because I paid it off in full the next month, it showed me as paying on timely manner. The credit card companies started stuff my mailbox then on. I guess the game here is to see how much debt can you accumulate before you are unable to pay it off in a month.
