Having issues studying for a class

I enjoy the topic of the class (globalization for those interested) but for some reason I read the text on the page, and have no idea what I just read. I'm trying to take notes sentence by sentence but it's taking a huge amount of time. Anyone have any suggestions? This has seriously got to be the worst text I have ever read.

Outlines are a good way to gather info from a difficult text.

There are MANY ways to study, some work better for one kind of person, while others are better for other types of people. There's really no "one best" way.
