I'm having a sort of expensive problem. I have been attempting to install some new evga back heat plates for my evga GTX480 cards and I had already chipped two small screwdrivers. Reason being as if the screws are "lock screws" basically I can't even make them budge, mind you the screw driver that I had used are ones used for opening watches or little gadgets with small screws. I was wondering if, for those who have evga GTX480 cards, have had similar problems installing the plates? Or do I need to get a heavy duty screwdriver, like from Home Depo???? Really hope someone can help me, I just dont want to damage my cards in the process.

Thanks in advance!

First off, stop what you are doing right now!!

I've read a bunch of horror stories about people stripping the screws on their 480s and needing to resort to drilling out or using a dremel to remove them.

They used loctite on the screws, the exception being the four screws holding on the heatsink above the GPU.

You must make sure you are using a correctly sized quality screwdriver to remove those screws. Put it in place above the screw, apply firm downward pressure and then turn. If it slips at all, stop and re-assess what you are doing. If you strip the screw to the point it cannot be removed, you're in for a major pain in the ass.

Oh thanks for the heads up groove, actually haven't touched the other two cards just the 1st but haven't really done anything serious in having the screws all screwed up. Ended up getting me some "Husky" brand screw drivers from our local Home Depot and will try applying your method on how to remove the screws. Also had an idea that these screws had loctite on them, was just excited to put on the back plates. will let you know how everything goes.

Thanks! =)

managed to put all three back plates on all three cards with the exception of 2 screws 1 from 2 cards, got threaded out (the first screw that I tried getting out with the lame screwdrivers) but overall everything when solid! =)

I would ask in the EVGA forums. I believe there's a sticky thread about the backplate there.
