I have read every guide I cant find to no avail.

I think the problem is with networking MCE to HOME, I heard there was a problem when trying to network the two.

Can someone help me? I run through the network setup wizard and use the same workgroup name and stuff.

I even tried start...run \\(computer name) and run \\(IP).

Doesnt work. Please, I really need it working. I had it working a few days go, but I accidentally erased it. I cant get it working again.

First, please be sure that both workstations is in the same workgroup.
Check the windows firewall and be sure that they allow local lan access.

after the above is check
enable shares on destination and allow all users access and then either use \\ or net use * \\destination IP\sharename /u: Destination ip\username password

How to check same workgroup or not?

If I click on the "Show other computers on the workgroup" button on the HOME computer, it freezes the computer for a few minutes, then an error message appears.

They are both MSHOME, have firewalls turned off, and the router has LAN on.

I need it to show up on My Network Places.

edit: I tried those two commands, they say the IP cant be found at all.

My firewalls ARE off.

check the nic / tcp-ip / advance settings.
on the wins tab,

what do you have it set?
Default:
Enable netBIOS over Tcp/IP
Disable NetBIOS over Tcp/ip

my is set to default. if that doesn't work, try enable netbios over TCP/ip

Are we talking XP?

If so, the easiest way is to run the home networking wizard. When you open network neighborhood, there should be a link on the left side of the window for it. Run it on both machines and things should start working.

I've come across instances where I have manually set up file/folder sharing on my network but it just didn't work but after running the wizard on all my machines things worked perfectly. I've had friends with similar problems that this solved the problem for.

Here is the setup process on the MCE computer.

Step 1- http://i28.photobucket.com/alb...lfromhell/Network1.jpg

Step 2- http://i28.photobucket.com/alb...lfromhell/Network2.jpg

This step is the only step that is NOT there in the HOME computer. Its because I have 2 ethernet ports on the MCE comp, and I only use one of them.

Step 3- http://i28.photobucket.com/alb...lfromhell/Network3.jpg

At Step 3, I use the second option.

Step 4- http://i28.photobucket.com/alb...lfromhell/Network4.jpg

Step 5- http://i28.photobucket.com/alb...lfromhell/Network5.jpg

Step 6- http://i28.photobucket.com/alb...lfromhell/Network6.jpg

Step 7- http://i28.photobucket.com/alb...lfromhell/Network7.jpg

Step 8- http://i28.photobucket.com/alb...lfromhell/Network8.jpg

At the end of the process, this shows-

Internet connection settings:

Connecting via ICS through: Unknown Internet Connection Sharing device
_______________________________________________________________________
Network settings:

Computer description: Gaming Beast
Computer name: SID-35D992AD734
Workgroup name: MSHOME

File and printer sharing is turned on. The Shared Documents folder and any files or printers you have shared are now available for others to use.

And, this is my Network Card settings.

Through a dlink router that connects to a modem from Verizon. Both the desktops are wired and the laptop is wireless.
