Hi,

I am running a network consisting of

desktop (xp pro SP1)
Laptop (XP Home SP2)
Xbox

What I would like to do is use my desktop as a file source for streaming music to my xbox. I can do this fine using my laptop. I have configured my network as a single workgroup using simple file sharing with static IP's. I can PING the computers and the xbox and I have internet access from all machines. When I try to do file sharing on the desktop here is what happens.

The desktop can not be found in my network places. When I try to go through the workgroups it gives me an error saying the workgroup is not available. I CAN find the computer by doing a direct search for the computers name (desktop) OR if I input the IP of my computer in the Xbox. This will show me my shared folders BUT I can not open them. When I try to open the folders I get an error. The first line or two says "\\destop\folder is not accesable you might not have permision to use this network. please contact the admin" but under that it gives me a second error "Not enough server storage is available to process this command"

I have already used the administrator control panal to enable logon without passwords and some other permission stuff so I don't think that is the problem.

Any ideas. At this point I'm pretty frusterated and may just buy a seperate NAS unit and save the hassel BUT I'd still would like to use my desktop on the LAN to copy the files.

Thanks

W

PS- This is also going out as a seperate thread.

I can do this fine using my laptop.

Does this mean that you can access files on your desktop with your laptop? Or does this mean that you can access files on your laptop with your X-box?

It's your permissions you have on that particular folder. Also disable any firewall you have.

Sorry, wasn't clear. I can access the files on my laptop using my Xbox. I can not access the files (although I can see the folder) that are on the desktop from either the Xbox or the laptop ( I can't even find the folders shared on the desktop using the laptop to search the desktop)

Nocturnal. Permision problems is what I origianlly thought was going on but I have loosened up the permisions both globally and on the folders themselves.
