RUN AWAY Mousewheel, RUN LIKE THE WIND! D:

"End" key ftw.

What I try to do is finish a game before I buy another. If I buy a bundle, I finish the game(s) I bought the bundle for before moving on. You are perhaps doing what I used to do, buy lots of games and never really play them through.

Yea, that's a really good idea. However, I think that ship has sailed :(

... and about being narcissistic. At least you are being honest. Your problem is obvious to me ... you have too many games to choose from. The availability of numerous "inexpensive" games (through STEAM and other sites) has resulted in gaming overload.

I stuck with favorites from before this timie life COD and BF1942 and still play them today. Just find something you like and stick with it ... and cut back on the narcissism.

Good luck ...

Yea, too many choices is definitely a big part of it. Then again? Even in the 80's and 90's I was this way, now that I really think back to it... I was better about it, but I've always been someone who would end up with a lot of games I didn't finish. Back then it was a shelf above my computer desk filled with jewel cases and a closet full of game boxes, now it's a Steam library.

Maybe this is just my fate, to be this way. Flighty. It's sort of a silly thing to worry about, not being devoted enough to friggin' video games.

But I thought some direct advice from others might help me find something which was likely to grab me if I worked to get over any hump there was with it. Seems a lot of people have been entirely cool with providing that advice :) Which is appreciated.

As for the N-Word (narcissistic) that's only cool when I say it, not when others say it! I'm actually just as long-winded and over-detailed (usually) about things that have no connection to me or my life, so there was a certain level of tongue-in-cheek in me using that word in the OP. Also a certain level of truth. But you weren't supposed to agree with it!

If I have a 3 game backlog that's too much. That's why when these new consoles release I am hoping I get a week or two to fiddle around with them before the other one arrives.

I just finished Farcry 3 but I actually didn't think it was that great. Just "ok".

I really liked "The Last of Us" but that's PS3 only.

I'm about to start The Witcher. Not sure if I should just skip to 2 or start with number 1.

Enslaved is an amazing game and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a blast and I definitely recommend it. It's nothing groundbreaking but I couldn't stop playing till I got that girl across the country.

You don't need to play 1 really...there's enough info in 2 to make you understand the characters and backstory.

I'm trying it now. Thanks for the suggestion.

I'm not sure about it... I don't tend to like the contextual camera jumping games. It's like God of War isn't it? Only other game I've played like this really is I guess "I Am Alive" and maybe Castlevania: Lords of Shadow.

These are not a natural fit for me, but I'll try to push through it.

What did you like about it, the story or the gameplay?

The story was neat. In a way it's like the Last of Us. Fucked up country and a big tough guy has to help a little girl get across the country. Obviously that's where the similarities end. The quips between the main characters are fun and the atmosphere overall is fairly lighthearted.

Gameplay is fun...God of War ish...spam buttons to beat some robot ass. It's not too difficult. It's more mindless than anything honestly, but for some reason the game hooked me in and I really enjoyed it. IGN just had an article where it was listed in the top 10 most underrated games of this generation.

If you want to play a real fun, hard retro-style game try Quake HD with the Darkplaces
mod. The graphics are absolutely gorgeous and the Ogres now actually aim at you instead just firing grenades a few feet in front of them.

This is why I got 2 eVGA GTX 760 4GB SLI (1230/7000). Now I get 10,000 fps instead of the measly 5,000 fps I was getting with my old 2 eVGA GTX 460 (827/1654/4100) SLI set-up.

Quake 1 is still in many ways my favorite FPS ever. So I'm setting it up now. I've done darkplaces before but not the Quake HD thing, I don't think, so I'm going to check it out.

Judging by what you claim to like/play, it seems like you have interest for well crafted singleplayer experiences.

Of your first list of games, Metro 2033 and Heavy Rain stand out.

Metro 2033 is a solid singleplayer experience, good graphics, amazing atmosphere and good balance of action and optionally stealth gameplay. Very much linear, on rails experience but it's one of the few on rails types of games that makes full use of the benefits of linearity to weave a decent experience (kind of like Half Life in that regard)

Heavy Rain is a fantastic game, absolutely brilliant. If you're one of those people who go ape shit at QTE then...well you're not going to like it, but if you don't mind QTE or like me, even enjoy they when executed well, it's an absolutely brilliant game.

I'm a PC gamer at heart and I basically bought a PS3 just to own and play Heavy Rain among a few other exclusives and coops.

My advice if you're having trouble getting into the flow of things, play something short so you can feel like you've ticked something off your list, Metro 2033 isn't terribly long. Having completed something and had a good experience will get you back into the swing of things.

Thanks again for suggesting this.

I'd messed with DarkPlaces before a while back, but I hadn't done anything with Quake 1 to make it look as good as this does. I'm having a blast playing through the whole SP campaign again.

The crazy thing is that most of these levels I haven't played since like 1997 maybe - and I still remember all the locations of secrets.

Do they have this for Hexen 2?

Probably not, but I'm all about overkill.

and that is the problem.. Dont feel bad i think many of us have it. When i was younger games came a bit harder (due to cash flow, and heck even time.. outside when really young, females and cars as I aged, and drinking as i got older).. hence I played games like ET on the 2600, to Sonic on the genisis, stuff that is pretty boring now days.. but back then you played it.. liked it..

look at that massive list.. eat cake all day, cake is boring soon.

You have several great games on that list. take a few weeks off form gaming. it miight help.. I have the same problem, I burn out.. to damn many.. i have over 400- 360 games.. only about 80 have been opened and played.

Unfortunately, most games now are not strong on the single player side. I would most definitely recommend Metro 2033. I almost quit at the beginning, but got much more interested as the game went along. Mass Effect was great for the first game, the second was OK, but the ending to the third game spoiled the entire series for me, although some will defend it.

If you like rpgs, Dragon Age Origins was really good, as was Kotor 1 and the Neverwinter Nights series.
Oh, also, Dragon Knight Saga was excellent.

I tell you what helped me. I recently upgraded my gaming rig, and Windows did the standard give the D-Drive designation to my DVD drive rather than my second hard drive. Not paying attention, I ran this way for a few days before getting around to installing Steam. Since my drive letter changed, nothing worked. None of the web "fixes" worked either so I had the brilliant idea of uninstalling Steam. Turns out, this also removes all of your games and data at the same time. Now I simply install one or two games at a time rather than having 50 games ready to go. I have found that I tend to finish what I start playing because I don't want to wait for something else to download.
