Having a FTP server at home is pretty cool.

So my house mate got his rig built now (A64 3500, 1GB, GF6800, bla bla bla) and it;s cool.
Anyhow, he starts asking me about the router and firewall at home. I tell him a ftp server would be cool.

So he plays his magic and now it's working. Pretty cool to be able to move files from work. Uploading at 220KB/s now.

FTP is so...so...1990's 😛

VPN is the wave of the future 😀

FTP over VPN?
no...network drives 😉

ewww

<- prefers HTTP Web Interface

so setup a sharepoint server...all the power of "network drives" with web interface and vpn security

yeah it costs more and is 10x harder to setup but thats why its the "wave of the future" 😀

😕

::remote desktop's into home PC, put's checkmark next to FTP service, opens port 21 on router::

Now I'm cool to!!!! 😀

thats a bit overkill for a FTP server isnt it?

my FTP server is a 700MHz Cele with 256 megs of ram running win2K

Well, he didn't built that machine to be a FTP server. We just happened to screw around with the home network and shazzzam!

220KBps upstream from a home connection ? 😕

No not quite. Since I am uploading TO my server at home FROM work I can take advantage of the 3Mbit download speed of the cable service..
If I am downloading from the server I only get 275kbit.

You see?
