Having 2 PCs is a good idea.

Yeah so my PCs PSU failed about a month ago..woke up in the morning for my coffee and internet and NADA. I went to work feeling empty and during my luchbreak I got what parts I needed..or though I needed. I was pretty sure my PSU failed and that I ruined my mobo trying to find out. I bought what I though were the best I could do for the money , came home and fixed the PC.

I was back up and running but I found out quickly that the mobo I bought was slower than mud....at least now I could go online and do some research and get something better then take back the crumby mobo.
But now I was stuck buying from this overpriced local dealer.

This is not the first time this has happened to me..its acutally the third.

A. I had no PC to go online and troubleshoot my problem
B. I had to buy local because I needed a working PC right away and had no PC to buy online with
C. Trying to save money I ruined my upgrade opportunity door because the local guy sells stuff to high and I did not know what to upgrade to anyways...I certianly am not going to trust what the salesguy says.

Lesson learned: after 3 x times going thru this...keep 2 PCs at all times.

There is nothing wrong with keeping a PC under a dust cover and firing it up every now and again to run an app and it will be there waiting when my PC fails again.

Some of us have a few around....at one time, 17 or so (see the Distributed Computing forum). Down to 5 and a laptop right now though! 😉

Yep having a second PC is good idea for backup , my backup PC is actually made from old parts left over from old upgrades. They are both networked as well .

I`ve like 2 brand new spare 350w PSUs that I have yet to find a home for lol... and a full tower Chieftec case, hmm maybe I should build a third PC 😉.

I always keep 2. A notebook for work, and a desktop for file backup, DVDs, games, and auxiliary use. My T40 just bit the dust (again), so I am glad that I have my desktop.

Same here I built my 2nd computer from old parts mainly with a few new ones thrown in,it runs 24/7 running newsbin pro grabbing stuff from usernet. 😉

I like to keep five or six around. That way you can still get on the net when one goes down and two sibblings are on a couple of others.

Four here and have not been without at least 2 for about 6 or 7 years now. I find that owning 2 or more computers is really fantastic for trouble shooting them when one is down.

I always have 2, one for main use and one for backup and in case the other dies some way. I've had two PCs ever since I was like 10 years old, and having more than one PC is very valuable. Make sure you have internet connection on both and an extra monitor though 😉
